Thank you Bryn for the offer, unfortunately on this trip it will be in and out of Heathrow.

Looks like fun.
I'd like to spend a couple of weeks in each of those stops.

Check em out via U Tube, not the same as actutually visiting in person, but interesting none the less.

You would be advised to take a holiday when you get back.

WOWZA.....Spectacular trip, Lon....Best wishes for a fabulous time on your journey.
My family and I traveled to Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar and Tangiers one summer.
We loved Lisbon...What a gorgeous city with tons of historical sites to see. We bought a ticket for a 'hop on, hop off bus' that allowed us to use public transportation that enabled us to see the whole city. You could get on and off the bus all day. It was a big help as it's a bustling city with narrow, hilly roads....saved a lot of wear and tear on our feet.
One of the highlights of Lisbon was taking a yacht tour of Lisbon and then landing on a deserted beach area to explore these gorgeous caves that you could swim to before a bbq lunch on the beach. Some of us then swam back to the yacht instead of taking the dingy back.
We adored the Algarve...stayed at the Sheraton Algarve (Praia da Falesia) for a week. We were so lucky to attend a beautiful concert and meet the famous fado singer, Dulce Ponte.

***As an aside, we also loved traveling to the ports of Cascais, Estoril and Faro before driving through the southern parts of Spain to Gibraltar and onto Tangiers, Africa. This was a trip of a lifetime for us.
Bon Voyage Lon.

My Trip Itinerary
Outta here tomorrow. Too bad the weather forecast for the Med is not for warmer weather. The worst part of this trip will be the Los Angeles Security Check at LAX. Off with the shoes, belt, empty pockets, open I pad, check prescription meds, bend over and grab your ankles (sorry that't the military). C'mon---I'm 6' 4", white hair, 77 years old, gimpy knees, do I look like a friggen terrorist? :wah:

Yes!! Only a suicidal maniac would jump off of a bridge!!

My Trip Itinerary
2:25 PM LAX Koru Room Lounge----- eating crab salad, brie & crackers, several glasses of chardonnay & waiting for 4 PM boarding to Heathrow.

My Impressions of the Med Trip
Granted, my less than two week trip hardly makes me a expert on any of the places that I have visited, but here are a few of my observations. There isn't one single thing that I disliked. I am presently on Corsica (Ajaccio) and will be leaving in the AM for MonteCarlo. Apartments Galore!!! I have never seen so many. Big ones, small ones, multi colored, Moorish, Modern, you name it. Yes there are many individual homes but what struck me is the number of apartments. Some rented, some individually owned.*
The Euro makes things a bit pricy for us Yanks, but not unreasonably so. I am sure there is some poverty in the places I have visited ( evidenced by a few street beggers), but over all, most seem to be enjoying the good *life. If I were younger, I could live in any one of the placesI have been, with no problem.
The weather is a bit cooler than I had expected despite checking it out before hand. *I have done my best to sample the local wines, both reds and white and have not found one that I disliked, some I Iiked better than others, but then, I say that about all wines. Lots and lots of history here (something we lack in the US). *Americans on this trip are a distinct minority. *There are folks from 22 different countries, most speaking some English. My somewhat limited Spanish was helpful and my wife's Kiwi helped in communicating with Aussies and Brits.*
