excited...

The Olympic Torch touched down at Land's End this morning and has travelled throughout the locality. It's currently in Falmouth. I should be excited people tell me, but why should I? Watching the live feed on the BBC website I noticed a comment that a local MP made about the torch being shown the best of Cornwall and can't help but think yes that's so true. I'm amazed the torch went through Penzance at all given that the whole area looks so poor at the moment. But the organisers had no option they couldn't get away without taking it through the first town you hit on your way out of Land's End. But as soon as it left our town it's back on track for the moneyed areas. It just occurred to me, the men from the council were crazily racing around Penzance Town Centre yesterday re-painting the double yellow lines :wah: seriously, was that all in aid of the torch coming through! Just wonder how much money this is all costing :rolleyes:

Oddly enough, the torch didn't go to Camborne/Redruth

I'm not really interested in the olympics but I was looking forward to the torch arriving at RNAS Culdrose...but, for me, it all fell a bit flat.

We had the winter Olympics in Salt Lake City shortly after I moved to Utah and the entire area was in an uproar. Food and lodging prices obviously went through the roof, traffic was crazy, constant road construction leading up to and during, too many people... and I'm north of the city. I'm sure a lot of people prospered but it's a pain in the ass for the peons.

Seems a bit over the top BBC News - Olympic torch tackle man near Land's End they had hold of him got him away from the torch bearer and then threw him into a granite hedge!

Luckily for me the major events are happening a long way away so we won't be bothered much when the games begin.

We were going to make the trip down to the Old Market Street area to watch but now you've stated here that there's a possibility we may perchance cross paths, we have decided Longwell Green or Hanham may be a less remote chance with a better class of locals

I spent my early years just off Hanham High Street. I'd go for Longwell Green if I were you, just to make sure.

No, though we had the Blue Bowl earlier on. When I was in Hanham we lived on Martins Road with cousins next door and the previous generation a couple of houses along from there, all backing onto the Kleeneze. My aunt learned to type in their pool.
