I was idly wondering what a person has to do to put someone's name forward for the honours selection process to have another person considered for a DBE. Tracey Emin would make a fine addition to the rank.

She works harder, and has worked harder, than most of us. I'm shocked at how admirable she's become.

She operates in a blind spot of mine (no pun intended:)). I can understand theoretically that what she does is Art, but it leaves me utterly cold at best. I know that the only person who misses out as a result of this is me, but there it is. I think she needs more than working hard to be considered, and I'm not one who can offer a value judgement beyond a somehow appropriate "pants"!

I'm content to leave her to the assessment of her peers. If they think she's worth it, or if she/her work means enough to spot for him to suggest a DBE, this is in itself validation of her work even if it means nothing to me personally.
I find I have become more relaxed about these things since the rise of Rap and its various relations and descendants. Poetry had (imo) been vanishing up its own bottom for some time (with a few honourable exceptions) and Rap was /is the people reclaiming it.
(Most of it is drivel, of course.

My cousin was an art critic and she once told me that ' art' only exists In the eye of the viewer. In other words, one mans meat Is another mans poison.
Much of the pretentiousness comes when someone thinks It's cool to ' appreciate' a load of bollocks In order for self admiration. They believe that Inventing meaning In something makes them Bohemian, In with the gang, more Intelligent etc etc.
Just an example but I am taken by the art of Javed Hasmi. I appreciate every brush stroke, the way the animals every muscle and sinew Is observed and the way the movement of the animal Is captured with an obvious understanding of how the animal moves.... but that's just me.
Tracey Emin ??????? Bah Boo rubbish

So what you are saying Is that your not really Interested In ' opinions' other than your own ' opinion ' ?
You have posted a thread just to wax lyrical and will only accept 'opinions' that bolster your own self Imposed authority on the subject.... but then that's just an opinion.

oscar, try to get it into your head once and for all. I find your opinions are without any value or redeeming quality. That's not a judgement I hold on anyone else's opinion, it's a statement about you. If you want to be part of a crowd, I held the same view of Six and Truthbringer when they were here posting. And Odie, come to that. I'm sat thinking who else. Nobody springs to mind.

As as usual you resort to Insults should anyone dare question your ridiculous opinions. Do you not realise what a fool you make of yourself here ?
It's quite simple.... If you don't like my opinions then don't answer my posts.... wait for the next one.... Or you could jump all over Bruv who also posted that this was pretentious rubbish.
It's a mystery to most of us why you even engage In a forum... you'd be better with twitter where you could wax lyrical without Interuption.
And excuse me but wasn't It you that complained on another thread some months ago about Odie being mentioned? You really are a tiresome little hypocrite arn't you?

My comment concerns the following waffle, not Tracey Emin's work.

I like Tracey as a person, not that I 'know' her, I like some of her work, not that I know much of it, but most career artists are known for certain pieces which may not be a reflection of the bulk of their work.
The Bed ......in my opinion.....was pretentious twaddle too, any work that needs to be explained is not worth the breath it takes to explain it.....in my opinion.
The Art world is full of pretentious opinion, similar to the emperor's new clothes, with people feeling they are too ignorant to dislike something because it rated by 'experts'
