As someone who has lost a pet and also lost a child... They are NOT the same thing!! I know some people think they are the same because they don't know the difference. It ****in' hurts. It sucks losing a pet. Please. Please. The third time for emphasis... Please.

Do not tell people it's like losing a child unless you know everyone listening has not lost their child.

I wasn't planning on it. I know a few Mums, and one had a sick lad a year or so back. I noticed then she was quite attached, to the extent that I became more worried about her than the lad.

Sounds like someone hurt you the way you describe. Nothing can help with that, of course, but I do think most people know it isn't the same.

Has that happened here? I don't really see the point of posting this if it hasn't.

I took it as a generalised statement. I can see how people comforting someone who had lost a pet might make a statement like that with the best of intent; but also how it might be devastating to someone who really was suffering that way.

Doesn't hurt to be reminded.

Apparently it's happened, but not necessarily here. This is where we come to vent about what happens elsewhere, remember?

I've never had children but I've lost many pets. I'm still well aware it's not the same as losing a human child however, and I resent someone assuming I need reminding, like I'm some dimwitted narcissist.

I doubt this is a common occurrence, it should be addressed individually instead of addressing the masses that it doesn't apply to.

Or is this thread another reminder how much koan has suffered and how sensitive she is? Are we going to hear about her multiple rapes again? Because the first 20 times just haven't sank in yet.

My husbands son Barry died at 4 years old from a rare form of childrens cancer.

My brother's baby girl died.

My own daughter died at birth.

My ex husbands brother ( Downs Syndrome ) died at 15 year old from heart failure.

All of us also lost much loved pets.

The two are different yes for they are different forms of grief.

Because one person has lost a child or a baby, It does not automatically mean that their grief Is greater than the person losing the pet.

All people are different. We all react differently and suffer grief Individually.

Having lost a child myself at birth, then yes, I can say that my grief was far greater and still Is than the grief I felt when a dog or cat of mine died of old age.

However, It Is a pompous attitude when those losing children assume they are or have suffered greater than the person losing the pet and actually seem to get annoyed when someone Is grieving a pet.

When people say 'It's like losing a child', In many respects that Is true. The similarity comes from a child and a pet both being totally dependant on you for their well being, their nourishment, their pleasure and their safety.

Let me give you a good example of what I mean....

When my brother was In his early 20's, he lost his much loved dog, Captain. He was beside himself with grief for weeks.

Later In life, our Father died and my brother ended up on anti-depressants because the grief he felt was so over-whelming.

Later In life, he had a baby girl, Magdelene, who died.... He considered suicide.

Now what If my Father hadn't died and he'd not later had Magdelene who died?

The greatest grief he would ever have suffered In his life would be losing his dog.

Edit.... There was a reason I listed the loss of children In my family but got distracted.

So, going by the OP as I understand It, losing a child Is worse than losing a pet.

By that logic, was the grief my husband suffered at losing his child worse than my grief because his child lived to 4 years old and mine didn't?

Was my ex mother-In-laws grief worse than my husbands because her child lived to 15 years old Instead of just 4 years old?

Grief Is a very personal Issue. What Is Important to some Is dismissed by others. What Is dismissed by others Is held dear by some.

The thing to understand Is that grief Is grief what ever shape or form. It Is a deep sense of loss and a pet can just as well cause a deep sense of loss. No-one has the right to judge another's sense of loss for It Is a personal emotion. Letting grief, hurt and anger go so you can be more empathetic to others ultimately Is more rewarding.

You appear to be an emotional poster. That's not a problem if you express your emotion in your own thread as Koan did for herself in this one.

You may not believe yourself capable of self-expression in this form and that could be one explanation as to why you tend to take over the conversations others initiate and turn them into conversations about yourself.

Go begin a tread about you and maybe others will attempt to assist.

Oh yeah, and try not to project.

It's not from another forum.

It was titled "Angsty angst" because I had to write it somewhere so my head wouldn't explode and there are a lot of people involved in a very ****ed up situation where one person is being a jackass and people are losing money and years of invested time. I was trying to keep my mouth shut and it somewhat helped to post that here.

The real problem isn't the guy's dog, it's that he stole the intellectual property of about six people and copyrighted it in his own name.

Oh, I don't hate him. I just wish he'd stop using the company set up for a group of people to raise money for himself on the basis that he's the only one with problems or the only one who put money into the project. Resignations are being written and he'll say he has no idea why it happened. I might hate him if he refuses to give people the rights to their own characters though. So let us say I don't hate him yet.

He just asked all the people and fans supporting the project that he stole all the rights to for $1500 to pay a vet... then said his parents paid for it but he needs help paying them back. That's where the dog comes into it.

Comparing your dog to a child doesn't always make me flip my lid... Just when you're asking for sympathy from people who you've royally ****ed over.

You are welcome. That's just my humble advice. The Photo. I don't know what you mean. I don't need to see it, it had no other place in the conversation except trying to be offensive. That's maybe okay for kids. You're no kid.

might be a start, nothing else you want to change?

Lot's of comments with the word stupid have been bandied around and whilst I can understand you commenting in another thread that people shouldn't be labelled, I can understand why people are. You see, if they don't get a label then they don't get help to cope with their daily lives, my son is a case in point, without his label of aspergers he wouldn't get any one to one help at school. Then there's a point when someone tries to explain that the author of a thread has difficulties you then decide that it's the informer that has difficulties, you can think that all you like, but to actually write it is below the belt.

Sad for you (well, not really!) that you feel you must behave so childishly. Sometimes I read your political stuff & I am impressed with your spirit. And, we are in the same time-zone & are from the same generation (I think) so I have some understanding of where you're coming from. Betty... Snooze and I took Ahso off Ignore to see what you and Accountable were talking about... The 5th member to be offended was Accountable just for the record as Ahso seems to have no grasp here.

Oh please !!!

What I object to, Is this Is now the 3rd thread he has deliberately sabotaged.

Oscar and snooze are the ones who insinuates Aura is stupid by their insulting condescension. Too bad Aura doesn't appreciate that. Oscar's got lot's of problems, you've said it I've said it, she's said it, others have said it too. Why all of a sudden is it taboo to talk about Oscar's "difficulties"? And snooze? Common, all problems, for goodness sake. I know how I am Arssewipe.

I'm over confident. over opinionated, can be aggressive at times, sometimes can be stubborn and pig headed.

When I'm wrong, I'll admit I'm wrong.

You have Inferiority Issue's.......... deal with them or just remain the most disliked member of this forum.

I think the only poster here with difficulties - learning, comprehension, and whatnot, is you, Oscar. Those are your words in the above quote, is that personal or not?

Now that I know what the picture reference is about that you made earlier it does seem that you are hell bent on following people round and winding them up today.

Name-calling, Oscar, name-calling. Ta-ta!

I'm curious where I was 'insultingly condescending' to Aura (since I was lucky enough to see Ahso's quote in your post.)

You know what you two stay at it in here, keep taking swipes all night for all I care. Both of you have personalities where you have to have the last word to feel you've won. I'm off to bed, I have far more pressing problems in real life than trying to sort out two people who just can't leave one another alone.

I wasn't addressing snooze, I was addressing Accountable. Are you accusing me of following Accountable around?

I hope you don't mean me, I'm only peripherally involved in this. I've got season 4 of True Blood on DVD and I'm only looking at FG during pee breaks.
