Cyclist Assholes

Post by koan »

I almost hit a cyclist tonight... or caused him to hit me. I have no idea which because he was all in black with no light on his bike at night. I only saw him after I pulled up to my house and parked and he whizzed past me (down a very steep hill).

I didn't see him when I stopped at the corner to turn. I didn't see him when I crept forward because there is low visibility at that corner. I didn't see him as I pulled onto the street, meters from where I park. He made himself invisible and I could have killed him.

He actually waved his arm at me in anger.

Is there no city ordinance obliging cyclists to operate a front and rear light on public roads during the hours of darkness? No cyclist here would get an iota of sympathy if they were hit while displaying no lights and very proper that is too, they're acting suicidally.

I thought the thread title was a reference to Lycra and drop-handlebars when I saw it.

On the other hand, I was almost take out twice whilst riding today by drivers in the outside lane coming past me and then deciding to turn across me - it's a good job my brakes work a sight better than their eyes.

I'm not sure how many Boris has brought to an untimely end but it must be dozens by now.

Several but most of them were sitting on the inside of a lorry at the traffic lights and caught when the lorry turned.

I used to cycle a lot so I'm quite aware of cyclists around me and give them lots of room. I have been out at night without lights and dressed darkly but I assumed no one could see me.

It would have been deemed his fault but that wouldn't make him less dead. I'll be quite happy if I never have to deal with having killed someone in my lifetime, no matter whose fault it was.

Well, teen cyclists and motorist around here at the end of summer and with nothing constructive to do, go around at night flashing green lasers into motorists eyes. And right below a flight path too. Think the cops will come out to check when called? Hardee har har. :( (yes, it did happen to me, and they just sat there and laughed-made me wonder if they were actually waiting for an accident/death of a motorist, very sad to think of)

I saw plenty of their antics coming home at midnight from the hospital, not in a good mood-and they had taken over a main street and were doing wheelies (?) down the middle of it, obstructing any motorist who wished to actually drive by. Where are their parents and law enforcement officials!

Where are their parents and law enforcement officials! That's astonishing !!!

I reported two teenagers on the edge of a main road one night who were using a laser Into drivers eyes. I was equally as surprised as them when no more than 4 or 5 minutes after my call to police, an unmarked car screeched to halt and out jumped two plain clothes police officers who nabbed them. They really took It seriously as they should.

Wow, I'm glad you got a quick response Oscar. This has happened to several people on my block, they weren't surprised when I warned them. No response from police, and we are concerned because we have an elementary school across the street-what will happen next week when back to school nights are going on?

Is there no way that your local newspaper would print a warning for you to motorists? I know It's a different country to us but I am sure that US police would be as embarressed If It got media attention, even on a local level. Brit police loathe nothing more than people going to local newspapers for It makes them look like their not doing their job.

Oh, we think alike. That was my next step when I see the green lasers flashing at night. All the neighbors are reluctant to call the authorities anymore, because of lack of response.
