Not just any fish, but American Catfish.

My son-in-law caught one that was almost as big as he was.

In my state of Kansas, for the most part that is illegal.

Reason is simple, we do not want to waste our resources saving some fool pulled under by a fish.

I can imagine, at the funeral the unsaid jokes (till later)

I can imagine, at the funeral the unsaid jokes (till later) Here In England, we don't noodle anything. Well, maybe some noodles with a beef chow mein but I've just watched a TV programme about the world noodling competition.

My eyes have been truely opened due to another TV prog we get about America called ' Swamp People'...

Makes me glad to be British frankly...... life seems so much easier without having to noodle a giant catfish or wrestle an alligator In a swamp.

When I was a teenager me and my friends used to noodle for sturgeon in the Kootenai river. One guy would be on the bridge where he could see the fish coming up river. He would guide the others in behind the fish where you could sneak up on them and grab them by the tail. I grabbed a 3 or 4 ft fish one day and he came out of the water thrashing. He whipped around and hit me in the side of the head. It was like being hit by a large sock full of rocks. Worst beating I EVER had. I never did it again. No way would I ever go after catfish.

I think it is also illegal in some states because if you take the fish from its hole the eggs are unprotected.

Who was tye nutter that first discovered it as a method of catching a fish --I'll just stick my hand ion this hole and see what grabs it

We go in for guddlling usually for trout. also known a tickling as you literally tickle them. Used to do it as a kid.

You said exactly what my thoughts were upon seeing Noodlers In this programme. Considering some catfish are so large, you're In danger of being sucked In, who thought... Yep, I'm going to stick my hand In this hole and see what happens'... especially considering the reason they're In the hole Is because they're protecting their eggs.

Then I watched something else about noodling sharks.....

Meanwhile... over on the Swamp People programme, there's people wrestling alligators for fun.
