I've owned a bathroom scale before but never used it. I tossed it the last time I moved. I get glazed over eyes when people talk about calories, tracking weight loss by the pound etc. I guess we all have things we spend time on that astounds someone else.

My daughter is very much into working out and watching her weight. She's quite happy we don't have a scale. I suggested she gauge her success on how she feels instead of what a bunch of numbers say and it seems to have worked better for her.

Do you think scales are a good thing?

I stopped wearing watches because I found myself looking at it every 2-5 minutes. I think weight scales have the same kind of effect.

I did away with scales years ago when I was slim. So pleased I haven't got any now, I don't want a daily reminder that I've still got my baby fat over a year later. I'd rather be back to nearer what I was but I have no motivation to do much about it at the moment. I know at some point I will sort it out though, but it won't involve buying a set of scales.

I think feeling healthy is the prime goal. After that, you should like what you see in the mirror, but not in comparison to the anorexic models in advertisements.

I'm just carrying a bit extra all round, along with a belly that makes people think I'm pregnant again lol although I seriously do have a 'bump' that's solid :wah:

I have a friend who takes the scale thing to a new level of absurdity. Her scale speaks bluetooth, so when she weighs herself it automatically gets logged on her computer, which compiles charts and graphs of dates and time of day and even where she is in her menstrual cycle. Good grief!!!

Me being awkward, I do find it helpful to track my weight.

My tendency (like most people) is to slowly put on weight and if I didn't watch it I'd balloon so the scales help.

As my weight can vary by up to four pounds between one day and the next, weighing once a week does very little good so I weigh each morning. As I'm anal I chart what the scales tell me - I've a log going back over the past sixteen years with trend lines and year on year variances :wah:

Happily it works for me - I'm the same weight now as I was when I was eighteen and have not gone over my weight when I started the chart since I started it.

The scales are my friend :-)

Nope, I don't use scales anymore. I just watch what I eat, do some exercise everyday, and try to wear clothes that flatter me.

That's a problem I could never blame so I had to do something about it - still need to lose a stone though.

I never use scales.... and my weight does go up and down. It's when my brother sings ' who ate all the pies, who ate all the pies' to me that I think hmmmmm time to cut back.
