It appears that the christians (I use the word loosely) arrived to annoy & harrass a group having a celebration. Xians behaving like westboro baptists. The muslims could have been any group--gay/black/jewish, whatever. What are you trying to say here lon?

Okay, the annual festival put on by local Muslims was invaded by a bunch of "Christian" folks holding insulting signs that attacked Muhammad, signs to tell them that they were all going to hell, yelled at them, held up a pig's head on a pole, etc. The harassment of Muslims in Dearborn has been an ongoing thing. Terry Jones brings his Koran burning act there on a regular basis and lobbies to prevent the building of a mosque. The clowns from Westboro Baptist Church have also shown up to harass the local Muslims.

I guess I'm not really surprised that some were pushed past their breaking point, after so many years of persecution by the noble "Christians". It doesn't justify it, of course. If the situation was reversed and Christians had been attacked for so many years in trying to build a church, I can easily imagine similar problems.

I'd throw stuff at them, too, if they showed up in my neighborhood like that.

But that's what they want you to do. If someone tries to provoke you it's up to you how you respond - why sink to their level?

I know all that.

However, these kind don't let you just ignore them.

They will escalate until you respond, so you might as well give them what they are asking for.

My missiles of choice would be eggs and old tomatoes. Perhaps some dog poop if it was handy.

In reality I'm not sure how I would react. Basically it's a form of bullying - usually bullies pick on people they know cannot or will not react but religious bullying is a whole world of insanity on it's own.

This instance sparked off riots in Belfast which is of course what they wanted. Knuckle draggers of the world unite.

Christian/Muslim relations are better here in San Antonio, but good relationships don't make exciting news stories.
