The Color Purple

It's the thirtieth anniversary of this award winning book. I've never seen the film but I think I'm going to watch it tonight. The author is very active in the fight for Palestinian relief.

I couldn't say if the film was faithful to the book, not having read it. The film however was superb

The author said it was weird to watch the film version as it somehow seemed like a cartoon of her story but she started to like it when she saw it in a theatre with a full audience. She liked the Broadway version better because they included the full relationship between Shug and Celie.

I prefer "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" over the movie but they're both good.

I have seen the movie several times, and finished reading the book not too long ago.

In thebook, there is a bit more detail about relationships.

The movie always moves me in certain scenes. Separations and reunions are poignant moments.
