I like music, most all kinds except Country Western. There was some great music in the 60's 70's 80's & 90's and now. I am so sick of listening to music of the 40's (Golden Oldies they call em) I could puke. Hey, nothing wrong with Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey and even the Andrew Sisters, but give me a break.
This music is piped in on the sound system at the outdoor pool, indoor pool, fitness center, closed circuit TV of activities etc. In addition, Friday and Saturday nights at the restaurant they have a geriatric band playing? You guessed it, the Golden Oldies. This Retirement Community has 3,000 individual homes with about 5,500 seniors wtih ages running from 55 up. How can whoever programs this music leave out 40 years. Oh they will jitterbug OK, but the favorite tune is "In The Mood". I love to dance. I would rather dance than eat, but my wife and I leave these hallowed premises to dance elsewhere where we can get on down. The music is my only bitch about living in a "Age Restricted Active Adult Retirement Community". Now ain't that a mouthful?

I don't know Lon but it sounds like these people feel old as well.

Maybe you are too young for these places, just because you get to a certain age doesn't mean you have to act that age or even like the things other oldies like. Try going to some regular nite clubs where the music is better and you can dance the night away.

Have you tried making a request for them to play the kind of music that you would like to hear?

The benefits of living here outweigh the music problem. We do go dancing elsewhere.

Yes I have, and they look at me like I must be nuts. In their defense, I think it must be a nostalgia thing. Some of them were dating and marrying during the 40's and it holds special memories. When the baby boomers become seniors they will probably drive everyone nuts listening to music of the 70's & 80's.
