I've been asked to send this to as many people as I know....

If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press #90 or #09 or any other number, end this call immediately without pressing any numbers.

There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your 'SIM' card and make calls at your expense.

Forward this message to as many colleagues, relatives and friends as you can, to stop it.

If anyone gets this call, please let me know and I can give you the contact details of the police force handling It and who to speak to.

I think its one of those hoax emails. These and variants of them have been doing the rounds for years

What I do seem to get a lot of is those so called computer technicians who insist you have several viruses on your pc. You can have a bit of fun with those over the phone.

You do need to be wary of these as they try to get you to log onto their site which does infect your pc. They are very persistent, even when you confront them as scammers, they dont concede easily

I've not had them call me personally, probably because if I don't recognise the number I just don't pick up. But I was at a friends the other day when they rang her, she didn't have a clue what they were talking about and in the end she told the guy they could speak to me. He immediately launched into the fact that I needed to switch on my friends laptop and get it online, I questioned him while he was telling me all this, I didn't switch on her computer at all, led him on a bit. He claimed to be from microsoft, I told him people had been conning innocent people with this sort of call, could I have a phone number to call him back on whilst I checked his claims out. He got quite panicky and very demanding, I went along with him saying that I would go to the computer in a second, let him keep rambling on and then said I needed to go. He almost went into meltdown lol I then just calmly told him if there was a problem microsoft would have created a patch to sort it out. He hung up on me :wah:

If heard of people stringing them along for ages on the phone just pretending to do as they ask. They rely on people not being computer"savvy" .

When they ask "click on My Computer "

reply "what, your computer ?"

Makes them go catatonic

When I was in the service I used to call all my relatives from the ship I was on just by dialing 9. Everybody did. It turns out the government or somebody got a hell of a bill. The captain was really pissed and made the IC people watch the lines.

Ask them to explain in detail how theyhave managed to gain access to your PC to find out and demand that they stop such illegal access. That usually slows them down.

I've had them as well, must admit I have little sympathy for people who fall for these scams. It's the phone companies that annoy me I keep getting calls from people ostensibly from BT wanting to talk to me about ensuring I have the best package. I don;t actually have a BT line any more so the calls tend to be very short
