The Politics Of Big Bird
Interesting how this happens.
Romney said in the debate that he'd reduce the debt by cutting funding to things like PBS, followed by "Don't get me wrong... I love Big Bird"
Obama later comments that Romney is going to let Wall Street get away with crimes but will "bring the hammer down on Sesame St."
Romney later comments that Obama is more concerned with "saving Big Bird" than saving real people.
And this is the latest headline news for the election. Sales of Big Bird collectibles went up since the debate. I'm not sure if it was Obama supporters trying to save the Bird or Romney supporters wanting to dress it up with a barrel and tin cup "beggar" outfit in mockery. That's really the big question for me: who bought all the Big Bird stuff and why?

It's surprising the things that folks latched onto from that evening.:wah:
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

I really do find it curious that sales of the plush bird "soared" right after the debate. The assumption is that Romney supporters rushed out to buy it because Romney said he loved Big Bird and it was a sign of solidarity. If that is true, they rushed out to buy the thing that Romney is going to kill. Perhaps believing that it will become obsolete and go up in value? I think they over reacted to his "love" comment and missed his point. They should have wanted Big Bird trashed as a free-loader.
Another possibility is that Obama supporters rushed out to buy it to show support for Big Bird but that doesn't make sense because the Bird is now "tainted" by Romney's love.
I do like the idea of masses running out to buy a Big Bird stuffie and putting the barrel on it.

It's all part of his cunning plan. If the 47% can't read and write or count then they are less likely to see the flaws in his policies the muppets is just the start.

BIG BIRD
[singing]"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. It's the most remarkable word I've ever seen. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. I wish I knew exactly what I mean. It starts out like an A word, as anyone can see. But somewhere in the middle, it gets awful "QR" to me. ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. If I ever find out just what this word can mean, I'll be the smartest bird the world has ever seen."
Much ado about nothing IMO

The Politics Of Big Bird
Big Bird was my least favourite character on Sesame St.
I never really placed what it was I didn't like about him/her but it has something to do with the way Big Bird was obviously trying to teach us something through his/her stupidity. I preferred sketches where funny things were happening and the muppets had true personality. Snuffleupagus was different. He was stupid... but in a pot fiend kind of way.

You think I am joking about the right seeing the muppets as anti-capitalist
Fox Business Calls "The Muppets" Communist - YouTube
As a non-american I find this is hilarious and also quite sad to see. Whatever happened to rational debate

I'd trust a muppet over a pundit any time.

At a minimum of a hundred million a throw to run for President, they take it far too seriously.
Question - when was the last time that the POTUS was not one of the mega rich?

I don't think Obama qualifies as "Mega Rich"
The last person that might legitimately fit that category was FDR.
Bush family has money, but the guys still have to work for a living.
The Kennedy's got their money from Grandpa who was a bootlegger.
LBJ and Tricky Dick were working stiffs, as was Ford. Clinton made some money, but he was from "poor dirt farmer" stock, and he still has to work for a living, too.
Jimmy actually worked on his family Peanut farm. And Reagan, well, he was an actor. what else can I say?
The only reason I can see voting for the Mitt is that I know he isn't in it for the money.
Most "Mega Rich" guys don't want the job. It is way too much like work.
