I have a number of American friends on Facebook. Firstly I'm amazed at how many of you guys post up that you voted, and lots state who they voted for which I find surprising.

But, seriously, you guys get stickers for voting ??:-2

Bizarre :wah:

Uh, yeah. Why do you find it strange? I reckon people are proud of voting because the majority don't take the time.

We give out stickers to children to say well done, it's a reward, like when they go to the dentist or doctors.

Just find it bizarre, I'd not be wearing a sticker to say I'd voted, would any other Brits?

I think I baulk at the being treated like a child that needs a reward element of it.

LOL. I see your point. Never looked at it that way. I really don't think the people vote just to get a sticker.Maybe its also a way to prove to their employers that they did vote and weren't out riding around gettin high.

I was always told that it was a secret ballot and that I had no obligation to discuss my choices with anyone at any time. So I don't.

I poke fun at all of them but on election day it's between me and my conscience to make an educated decision and involves no one else.

As for the sticker, I take it as a lighthearted attempt to inspire/remind others to do their civic duty. I wouldn't take it so seriously, Betty, really it's just for fun.

You will find that most Americans don't even vote. I personally am not voting, there's no point. The president is just a figure head, he doesn't run the country. The voting process makes me sick as it's all about the money. Nothing will change in the next 4 years other than life becoming harder for Americans most likely.

Well, I voted after work today and the lady at the polling place put that sticker on my jacket after I finished. She was a sly one....and quick too. :wah:

I'm flabbergasted at it all. I just find it really bizarre lol whoever sat and thought 'I know, we'll put stickers on everyone that comes in to vote'. I still can't get it out my head that it smacks of saying 'well done' to those that vote either, just bizarre.

Maybe it's just British reserve, I'll tell people if I've voted or not, I'm not that bothered, but I wouldn't want to walk round with a sticker advertising the fact :wah:

Having discussed it with someone else tonight I'm also letting the fact sink in that was pointed out to me, it will probably start happening over here sometime soon too.

Our county did away with them 4 years ago to save some money and they were back two years ago because of all the complaints the polling places reported.:yh_rotfl
