Went to supper Friday night at a new restaurant in our locality. My partner & I and another couple chatted away non-stop, but when I looked around the restaurant there were several couples, many young, but some not so young who were texting away on their smart phones.
They were like sitting opposite each other, eyes down, thumbs prodding away, smiles on their faces but not for each other. They were smiling at stuff that was coming up on their phones.
Hey! I know I'm old fashioned. I mean I only just figured out how a fax/phone worked when the internet attacked us. But going out to eat WITH another earthling and then ignoring them while you text some phantom is crazy!
What do you think?

What you have described is happening everywhere and it is getting worse. Continual texting and cell phone use has become addictive for many.

but that doesn't make it right. I find it disrespectful and if I was out to supper with someone and they started texting my feelings would be hurt and if it was a date I was with I would get up and leave. To this day I still pick up the phone and call people vs. email or texting; you get to know the person and more of them with voice contact. Maybe old fashion but it carries respect and is much more personable.

The LetsTalk.com Cell Phone Etiquette Guide
Excuse Yourself Before Taking the Call
The call may be important to you, but realize you're also important to the person in front or next to you.
The Fix: Don't talk on your cell phone, play games or send text messages in front of someone who expects your attention, whether it's a grocery store clerk, doctor, business partner, or old friend.
