Ranulph Fiennes

The eccentric 68 year old English crank Ranulph Fiennes is undertaking a journey through the Antartic night to the pole in temperatures down to minus 90 c.

He is on foot but leading a tracktor hauling accomodation and supplies in trailers etc.

This is the man who amputated his own finger tips with DIY tools to save on the Bill he says.

According to an interview the affect on the vehicles is not entirely known, in that as far as I could understand there is no way of replicating the conditions to test their performance.

I hope he succeeds, but he also has a dicky heart

It all seems like a hell of a risk to me.

Well, at 68, becoming an ice cube at the South Pole sounds a hell of a lot better than hanging out in the coronary ward of the local Hospital.

What about the others he is taking ?

Would they go without him leading the team, raising the finance ?

Apparently when they get there, they are on their own if they get into trouble, no help is possible......what so ever.

They are fully on board, it seems.

And the charity is worthwhile.

I doubt any of them are just going along 'cause it sounds like fun.

I am not sure I would want to be totally dependent on the vehicles, though.
