I drank water from a garden hose and ate lead paint too. I was actually allowed to leave the house unsupervised and behave as I wished, I was not required to return until dinner time or if I was on fire and or actively bleeding.

You brought home road kill? And Oscar "nursed" them and YZGI ate them! WTF! In the good old days we never got any road kill to eat cos it was like snapped up real early in the morning by the tramps!
But I do remember one time my aunt Flo asked the vegetable guy who came past her house driving a donkey cart if she could have some cabbage leaves for her rabbits.
Her kids who had gathered around the cart went: "But ma we don't have any rabbits."
And Flo, baring her teeth goes: "Of course we do children." (Then under her breath) "Now get the hell outa here kids!!)
And that night for supper they had ground beef and cabbage!
Yeah the good/bad old days!!

When I say roadkill, I meant Injured animals Including rats etc.. and nurse them.
As children, my brother was being geared up to play county cricket. Two years younger than him, my Father would put me Into bat In the nets so my brother could practice his fast spin bowling which even just as a teenager, he could bowl at 70 mph... I called It child abuse.
