Prisoner's rights

Post by Bothwell »

The European court of Human rights ruled today that the British practice of withdrawing prisoners right to vote is illegal and should be reinstated.

I obviously wholeheartedly agree, I mean the poor lambs, it's bad enough being caught but to have your vote cancelled must keep them awake at night ( well that and the 250lb latent homosexual cellmate).

So my fellow Brits next time there is a general election beware of the hordes of ex-cons rushing to the booths. They will have realised the error of their ways and instead of Murdering, raping, robbing, mugging etc will excercise their vote to change the system from whithin.

What makes this case even better is not only are the British government having to comply with a judgement from Strasbourg (which does not appear on my map of the UK?) but the prisoners case was paid for by legal aid i.e. my tax money and guess where the money comes from for the governments lawyers, yes you guessed correctly MY tax money. I cannot tell you how happy I am that my money is being spent on such worthy causes rather than wasted on such frivolity as hospitals and education.

Inspired by this judgement I am off to see my solicitor to bring a case against that most heinous of criminals namely Mrs Hedges my primary school teacher who 40 years ago denied me the role of Mary in the nativity play solely on the grounds that I was not a girl, an open and shut case of "Gender prejudice" if ever I heard it. I will let you know how I get on.

tit for tat, someone lost their rights when they had to deal with the felon, so to heck with the felon, he/she gets no rights at all. How outrageous, here in Canadaland voter apathy is disgusting, and I am sure the prisoners would catch on quickly and hey imagine if the government heads were chosen by those lowlifers. How insane.

Just means they will have to review the law perhaps some should have the right to vote re-instated after a period, currently anyone going to prison loses the right to vote-just pay all your parking fines on time. If TB keeps the way he's going having another court of appeal against the government might be quite useful.

Most crime is against individuals or in some cases companies. A crime against the state would be treason wouldn't it? Even terrorism is regarded as a crime against individuals and is treated as such. it is not a crime against the state as such even if the intention is to bring down the government. Wonder how the US would have reacted if we had tried the IRA for treason when they were caught instead of treating them like criminals? Crimes against the state smacks of totalitarianism. TB won't get to go that far.

One of my brothers was in prison and pitched fits about his "rights". I got sooo sick of it. I told him to never talk to me about it again - he CHOSE to shoot someone (no they didn't die - thank God) - but it makes no difference to me. I asked him one time if he would feel the same way if someone else had shot me. That's different Sis was his reply. What a bonehead!!!!
