California peeps: Huell Howser has died

Post by valerie »

It makes me really sad for some reason.

Huell Howser dies at 67; TV host profiled California people and places - latimes.com

My Mom always thought he was the most attractive man...

I haven't heard of him, but I like those "local flavor" shows. I watch them when I travel.

He did so many places in California, big and small, and truly

seemed to love this state. Yeah, he could get a bit too much

of the golly gee sometimes, but even this lifelong Californian

LEARNED from him.

Very cool.

He was unique. His style wasn't for everyone. My wife would run across the room to hit the mute button when he was on, but leave the picture. "So this thing - you call it a dam? This thing holds back a river and makes a lake? Really? How do they doooooo that?" But he went to some great places and showed some great scenery. I also remember that, at the end of a show, he would offer it on video tape. It was like a time warp.
