Ammo shortages abound

Post by halfway »

Did a little research to find popular ammunition and it is amazing that so much is sold out with long back-order times.

It is hard for me to comprehend that all these millions of folks rushing to buy ammo are crazy, wackos, or paranoids.

These are our neighbors and many are likely educated, successful, and responsible Americans. Probably good folks too.

Maybe the president has an ammunition lobby to re-pay? Wall Street firms that have private ownership in these companies? Lead mines, brass, copper producers? I guess it all depends on what items you look at and from what vantage point.

It only takes a small percentage of people who panic to go out and empty shelves of ammo.

This happened four years ago when Obama was first elected. I have no numbers, but I suspect back then it wasn't a sever as today.

I had reason to go to the local hardware store and while there bought a box of (50) .22lg. That was my panic. I did that so as to ask him about ammo sales and he told me of one fellow going shop to shop in search of .357 mag. The store does not have a wide variety of ammo. But then it is a hardware store. The ammo he sells mostly fit the hunting rifles/shotguns and a few hand guns he sells.

I could have walked down the street to talk with the owner of a small gun shop, but he's an old cranky fellow I just don't care to visit for chit chat.

What is really amazing is the rise in price of semi-automatic firearms. Anybody can check that out by visiting sites such as

Discount Guns for Sale - Buds Gun Shop

That Obama guy is the best salesman in history. America bought his HOPE AND CHANGE, and now we are busy buying guns and ammo.

The shortages were really noticeable with .40 cal and .223 cal.

Many friends and neighbors have been discussing the shortages as well. Some of the big ammo outlets are backed up for long periods...which is an unusual event from what I have seen.

You guys don't feel this is due the the same type of knee jerk reaction to events that the other side takes when they start chanting to take away guns?

What I'm reading suggests that the run on guns and ammo started after obama was elected due to 'fears' about what he would do.
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

It would appear so.

What are they afraid of?

I thought I already posted that some folk panic when Obama was first elected.

Fact is since Obama was elected sales of firearms have been though the roof, so to speak.

Now that there is a Push to ban semi-automatic weapons, what would anyone expect to happen?

You have the Jonny come latelys who figure they want one of them things, and those who buy them up so to sell later.

BTW, what's being floated is not much in the way of reform anyway. The legislation New York is passing which is being described as the toughest among any state is close to nothing AFAICT.

This has nothing to do with the subject at hand or anything else. It was just

cracked me up.

Yes you can do a lot of damage with a bread stick and you have to be able to defend yourself against attack by the sugar bag slinging hooligans.

I am not clear on what your point is. Do what you want and see the reaction, as if it was not in some level predictable,or not.

Crowd behavior is always intriguing. People are in fear as they have been at points throughout history. I wonder if their fear will prove justified as did many free folk prior to tyranny? Naw, they are probably just wackos.

Not clear what you mean there, but I am not making excuses.

New York is not my battle ground. The big picture now is the Feds.
