Careful How You Drive in RSA!

Post by jones jones »

Bloemfontein businessman Chris Snyman shows the ticket he was issued with when a traffic cop flagged him down - the reason: "Drove motor vehicle while driving."

So please don’t....."Drove a motor vehicle while driving!"

What does the 'R' stand for in RSA? I presume the 'SA' is for S.Africa.

Of course, how silly of me. I did Google it though & that did not come up on the first 2 pages. Thanks jj. It's a good thing it's not called "The People's Democratic Republic of SA". You know what that means!

Whenever you see the words "People's" or "Democratic" in a nation's name it means the poor citizens are in for a miserable third-world life. Think North Korea, etc.

Well the RSA could well be going down the same road. There are like a gazillion poor in the Republic and a gazillion gazillion homeless people, yet the President, Jacob Zuma has just built himself a "house" funded by the taxpayers ... cost? 260 million rand. Cabinter Ministers houses recently renovated ... cost? 65 million rand.

Is this where you live JJ? SA?

I have never wanted to visit; still can't get over disparity of white/black.

Uhuh ... Well the disparity is still very very obvious except now its mostly between the black ruling class and the rest ...

Yes, there are always "tokens" who are allowed through & they usually end up being disinterested from whence they came. These "tokens" are used to show how much progress there is when in reality.....................trying to keep the lid on insurgency and maintain the status quo.

Well in the RSA its a bit more than tokenism. There are many genuinely wealthy black businessmen and women and I mean like billionaires and millionaires. However the gulf between the very, very rich and the average black worker remains huge.

The most disturbing aspect of post apartheid South Africa is the fraud and corruption which takes place daily and the culprits range from the very top down to the bottom so to speak.

Many, you say? Wow. I know so little about SA, mostly because I never wanted to know. Are there any very poor whites living there?

Well officially its hard to know because all statistics given out have to simply state numbers without any reference to colour. But, yes I drive past many white people begging at traffic lights every day. There are about 52 million people here but of course considering the ratio of black to white there are miiions more poor blacks than poor whites.

At the last census held in 2011 these were the demographics:

Africans are in the majority at just over 41-million, making up 79.2% of the total population. The coloured population is 4 615 401 (8.9%), while there are 4 586 838 (8.9%) whites. The Indian/Asian population stands at 1 286 930 (2.5%).
