Horrific death
A 14-year-old girl has been found dead in a house in Greater Manchester where a pack of five dogs were said to be "aggressive and out of control".
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

Horrific death
I have just been watching this on the news.
Poor poor girl..
The dogs are believed to be Bull Mastiffs....very large powerful dogs but 5 of them ? Problem there Is when there Is more than 2 dogs and one becomes aggressive, some breeds will Instinctively go Into pack mode.

Two bull mastiffs, two Staffordshire bull terriers and a **** zhu.
There are hundreds of staffies in the rescue centres, they look really vicious and idiots get them to make them look hard and then dump them when they realise they are mostly big softies. Problem is if they do bite they are so powerful they do real damage.
When we picked our pup at the dogs trust there were also eight puppies from a litter that were american bulldog/rhodesian ridgebacks cross breeds - someone had crossed an american bulldog - looked remarkably like a pit bull, (which are banned) to me - with a rhodesian ridgeback. You have to wonder at the motives behind that one and imagine a dog that size in the wrong hands.
I note the owner says she was intimidated by her dogs which rather begs the question why did she have them in the first place. Maybe there's a case for certain breeds of dogs requiring a licence and the owners an intelligence test ( to ensure they can out think the dog) with the police the authority to see the licence on request.

I took a rescue dog that was the result of some moron crossing a rottweiller with a German Shepherd..... one of 11 puppies... At first my nephew had her and he really really tried hard but she ate his house and scared his neighbours s.hitless...I took her off his hands when she was 2 years old. She was an absolute brute of an animal. Most dogs catch tennis balls, Cara caught cricket balls In her mouth. I had to do some much training and discipline just to get her to walk to heel but even then, had she the Inclination, she could physically pull me Into on-coming traffic... I could never ever totally trust her... there was that time she took Instant dislike to some poor man on The Sussex Downs, knocked him clean off his feet and sent him rolling down the hill... She needed a huge amount of exercise and If bored would eat my husbands shed... I used to dread the thought of another 10 of her out there somewhere possibly untrained. To have the equivelant of 5 of her shut up, bored In a house Is a disaster waiting to happen...
Mind you... I have to confess... there was the time I was looking out of my kitchen window and a group of teenagers about 19 years old decide to throw stones at my heavilly pregnant cat sunning herself on the drive... Guess what Cara ? It's your lucky day... I just opened the front door and told her ' Go get them'... It was brilliant.... she chased them right Into the fields until they had to climb tree's.... and no... I didn't give a toss.

Someone near me has a rottweiler german shepherd cross, nice friendly dog just shrugs off other dogs going for it (probably doesn't feel threatened). There's also a doberman rottweiler cross, also a big friendly dog but both have been well trained from puppyhood by owners that take training seriously. The owners have to be careful though where they let it off the lead just because of how some people react to the size and type of dog. When my dogs roughhouse with them you would think they were trying to kill each other.
You were lucky, if she had bitten any of them that would have been it for her. Was she neutered? It's one of tye conditions of the dogs trust if yo8 get a pup that you provide proof it has been done, they reserve tghe right to remove the dog but I don't know of any cases where they have actually done that.

Yes... she was spayed ... back then, The Dogs Trust was known as Canine Defence League...
The day she chased the teenagers, I knew they'd outrun her.... she was so big that she didn't so much run, more lumbered along but the sight of her behind them must have been a pants changing moment for them. She was actually Incredibly loving to those she liked...
The only problem any breed of dog has, Is useless owners... I have seen time and time again over the years people getting breeds totally unsuitable to their needs. In the case of that poor girl, no-one needs an American Bull Mastiff to guard their house In a country that has no guns...

Why would they be more useful in a country that had guns?

Bull Mastiffs are the choice of many Americans In home protection. If you have a couple of them, they are powerful enough to bring down a gun wielding Intruder very very quickly unlike another breed that may just lock onto a limb...
They have an absolute fearlessness and because of It's bulk and size, they can take you down In one swoop. When you have an armed Intruder In your house, that's what you'd need...
Recommended Family Watchdog and Guard Dog Breeds
However, as I said, there's no place for them in the UK for that kind of home deterrent...
