A TOP NHS boss was facing calls to quit last night over a shock decision to suspend kids’ heart ops at a hospital.

Experts questioned the move by Sir Bruce Keogh, saying it was based on “dodgy death rate statistics.

They accused him of acting too hastily at under-fire Leeds General Infirmary — just 24 hours after locals won a High Court victory to keep the unit open.

Sir Bruce, the medical director of NHS England, said the trust had no choice after figures suggested a high death rate twice the national average.

But Dr John Gibbs, of the Central Cardiology Audit Database, said the data was only “preliminary and had not undergone “rigorous checking.

Kids needing heart surgery during the three-week review will be sent to other hospitals.

Leeds MP Greg Mulholland called it a “scandal He said: “I believe Sir Bruce should resign.

my daughter who is now 7 underwent heart surgery at leeds at only 19 days old and dr jhon gibbs was the surgeon who did the job and believe me i couldnt thank the staff at LGI enough we will be forever in their debt.

and now sir bruce keogh wants to end this lifeline....

is this really all about mortality rates because before any patient goes on the operating table the risks are pointed out that you may not wake up after surgery although 99 out of 100 do but 1% unfortunatly does go wrong

or has this instruction come from number 10 as the tory lead coilition

look to dismantle another piece of the NHS to save money and pay parasite pen pushers like sir bruce hugely inflated wages and gold plated pensions and payoffs and move towards private healthcare like our friends across the pond where you can have it if you have enough money to get it done.

They say their decision Is based on numbers of deaths yet a hospital spokesperson said tonight that they have looked at their data and their stats do not match the governments.
