I found this very interesting, I don't agree it is the kids alone coming up with these ideas independently without some parental influence.

I believe they are influence by their parents whether their parents consciously do it or not. They are also influenced by psychologists asking questions such as the ones in the video. Some of those kids might not have given the matter the first thought ... until the survey got them to thinking.
Our schools were segregated until I entered the 4th grade, when the new elementary school was finished and the district was integrated. Being in the rural Deep South, racism was so pervasive that we white folk didn't even notice it anymore. But I was fortunate. We had a black family that lived nearby and we kids played together all the time before we started school, and on weekends and summers after that. My mother was very direct in her instructing me to show everyone respect regardless of color and not join in if I saw a group of white kids teasing a black child.
I saw right away that other kids' parents had different messages for their kids.

Yeah, the parental influence is painfully obvious in many of the comments.
Interesting.

Parental influence? I think the parents are wrong and right. I've been in the work force for many decades and a few years ago I did a stint as a temp. Believe me racism is alive and well in America and it isn't the white folks doing it all. In my region Hispanics are the major offenders and Asians to a lesser extent. Fact is though that if you try to work in a place with a majority of Hispanics you sure as hell are not going to fit in, same with Asians.
I think the video is biased and unrealistic politically correct BS. If you're going to address racial issues you need to go after all the racists.

Children arent born racist. It develops through influences from both family and peers. I didn't discriminate when I was a child because I never ever experienced any negative attitudes from my parents, indeed my grandparents fostered an African baby back in the early 60's. My own children and grandchildren have never needed to ask whether they could associate with people of a different colour skin. It would not have occured to them that it was anything but completely normal.
My stepfather, however, has shown racist tendencies in conversations but has always been confronted about it. I don't think its borne of any hatred but of an age old ignorance thats difficult to shift after all these years.

I remember a conversation with my brother, discussing whether our father was racist.
I thought he was a little, because he thought ALL blacks were nice naively because of their big white toothed smiles and good humour.
It might not have been a negative racism and he might not have thought himself racist, but even that attitude must have affected his kids one way or the other.
We have a massive responsiblity as parents not to lead our kids up the wrong path.
I am amazed sometimes what my kids remember me saying or doing long long ago..................it is humbling and frightening how we influence them inadvertantly.

Your Father wasn't being racist Bruv. Racism Is about hate. There was no hate In what your Father said but having said that we are conditioned that stero-typing of any race Is not PC and there-fore racist these days.

Racism is about recognising a difference above and beyond skin colour, I don't think it necessarily has to be negative.

This might be old news but I'll put it up anyway. Are we ever to move on when there are elected representatives who still believe in this.......

Wow. That's the first time I've seen that. I thought those guys had all left politics and became sportscasters & talk show hosts.

A lot of the problems associated with racism are as much cultural bias as actual racism.
But true, there are still far too many people concerned with skin color in this country.
And it is far too easy for children to learn from bigoted parents.
And bigotry is not limited to any one color or culture.
