Question on replys/quotes

Post by BTS »

This is aimed at anastrophe in general but others might have comments too.

My question is about when we reply, sometimes they are to someone replying to someone else. I was wondering if I could set my reply options where ALL coments were included in my reply?

Kinda like our IM's do.........

Just a thought and if not able to do now anastrophe maybe we could look at the option?

Me thinks it would make some of the posts more understandable.

i don't run the forum software. i run the server. the difference is probably meaningless to you and 99 and 44/100ths of the human population, but in pragmatic terms, i've no idea how to do what you describe. tombstone is the one who can address this.

i don't see the point of it. if you must quote a secondary source, just cut and paste it into your reply to maintain the flow.

Mornin' Randall!

An IM is the acronym for "instant message". AKA PM, or private message, as we call them here in the Garden. Haven't you received a PM yet?

It's funny, I didn't see the date until I saw your reply. When I read that, I thought, "Uh-oh, what did I miss?" I'm glad it's old news!!

'mornin' all, randall here,

Many thanks to all those who sent private messages and I must apologise for being so dumb -even at my age - for not knowing what "IM" meant.

I am slowly catching up with the younger generation but have not really accepted "Cheers" as a substitute for thankyou and several other things.

Even the "Oxford English" dictionary is running hard to keep up as I saw in an interview on the AM BBC1 television news - and, again, there were many words which they now going to included that I haven't even heard off - of course,

many of my English shipmates told me for nearly forty years, "You;e just got to accept it. As far as we're concerned you are clean off the edge of the map where you live."

GOd bless all.

randall having re-thinks (now called Senior Moments in the |USA I believe (?)

A lot of abbreviation and acronyms reminds me one day when serving my apprenticeship as a marine engineer.

I was, at the time, intensely interested in wireless and making wireless sets (those with the big glowing valves ( US "TUBES")

Even today, I can still draw the circuitry out of my head for a crystal set, a crystal + one valve set. A two or three valve set all worked from batteries plus the "push-pull" of the out put which gave you better and more powerful sound to your loudspeaker.

Anyway, I was working on a fishing boat when radar (Radio Location we called it then) was just being fitted to small boats and the local Marconi man was working on the same boat repairing some piece of the radar.

I kept use the abbreviation CRT and he kept calling it a cathode ray tube and I asked him why.

"Oh, I am never in such a hurry that I haven't time to give it its right name"

God bless all.
