Notorius football fouler and Hollywood hardman Vinnie Jones has stuck the boot into England, branding it “past its sell-by-date..........

He also slagged off the country’s weather and said it was home to too many immigrants.

It takes a lot more than a bit of self-advertising like this to put Vinnie Jones down though. The goodwill he generated from his British Heart Foundation video is immense.

Sorry but no, Vinnie Jones has saved no-one and It is ridiculous to claim he has.

Put It Into perspective. Had the heart foundation asked Ross Kemp as one example or anyone else to do the advertisment, no doubt they would have. They happened to ask Jones.

In perspective, the advertisment saved the lives, that's the whole point of the ad, not Vinnie Jones. He was nothing more than an actor In the advert. It was the tecnique shown In the advert for CPR that saved lives, not the actor showing It.

Not at all. The ad worked so spectacularly, and was watched by so many people, not because it was accurate or well-made but because of the juxtaposition of Vinnie Jones with the subject matter. The script would have been meaningless with a different lead actor. Choosing Vinnie Jones allowed the British Heart Foundation to finally get their message across to a vastly larger audience than they ever managed before, and to make it memorable. There really are people walking around alive today who would be dead had he not made that advert.

Coming from a sporting family, I can tell you that Vinnie Jones Is not seen as a role model, far from It.

His American series ' Toughest cops' has suffered falling ratings and here In the UK never even got prime time TV but relegated to the small hours on some obscure channel.

The whole point of Jones going to America In the first place was due to lack of work In the UK.

The Heart Foundation advert had an Impact simply because the Heart Foundation Invested on prime time TV commercial breaks during the soaps for maximum audience potential.

It Is nonsence to suggest lives have been saved by VJ. I have seen many an article In tabloids over the years where life savers have attributed the knowledge they gained to save lives was through watching Casualty on BBC 1.

It's like attributing lives saved by the Heinrich Maneuver to an actor In a video showing It.

The lives saved by the Heart Foundation are down to the Heart Foundation, a catchy song ' Staying Alive', showing the technique and and prime time slots.... you could have put the Tetley Chimp In the same advert and got the same response, probably more response.

Here you go.... people who have saved lives by watching Casualty.

Take out the music, and you have no advertisement or to be more to the point the advert has nothing to hang on, the strength of the advert was always the music, they could have chosen any thug like character to voice what Jones said ..........with just as much impact.

Just because It says so on the Internet doesn't make It fact, for that Is just someone's opinion.

Calling It the VJ advert may just be because he's In It.

Had the same advert been used using any actor In the book would have had the same Impact for It Is the procedure and technique that has saved the lives not a bit part actor.

I would go as far as to say that the Heart Foundation made an error of judgement using him. He Is thoroughly disliked In this country and I am sure I am not alone In finding him making such a serious subject a comedy In the advert offensive.

If they wanted to go for a hard man Image, Ross Kemp would have made far more Impact because he Is liked and respected. His ratings for ' Ross Kemp's gangs' got record ratings and prime time TV.

I am also sure I am not alone In that the moment VJ's appeared on my screen, I went out of the room or switched channels.

In fact, 15 lives saved from a National prime time TV advert Is pretty p.iss poor In any book. Maybe It could have been treble that with the right actor. Maybe the low stats are actually down to people not liking and listening to the Ad.

If anyone credits the 15 lives saved by the Heart Foundations advert to VJ, then you have to credit every single actor and actress In Casualty for also saving lives and there are far more notable and fine actors In that than a bit part thug.
