Obese British Man Forced to Buy Two Plane Tickets Given Seats in Different Rows

Obese British man forced to buy two plane tickets given seats in different rows - NY Daily News

Shouldn't he be entitled to a refund for one seat?

I'll bet those forced to sit next to him in the seat he occupied weren't laughing.

I would comp him for the whole flight with apologies.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

Me too, but that is probably why we don't own airlines. If, despite his size, he was able to sit in one seat, then why must he pay for two?

Then perhaps those are the folks who should be paid!

Is it not more to do with the overall weight the plane is carrying?

At a guess the guy weighs around the same as two other passengers would. If out of 400 passengers 100 of them were twice the weight of standard passengers the plane would end up over it's weight limit. Just the same as your luggage is restricted to certain weights the airlines appear to be ensuring cabin weight is also kept within certain boundaries.

A brainy assessment Betty! & it's a bit schadenfreude that I found it so funny, but there you go. Also, it's not the first time it happened to him. According to his picture & the article, he seems like a sweet, sad man & I'm sorry he had to go through this.

I laughed too, then moved away from the thread and it suddenly occurred to me about overall weight of the plane. The airline are not providing two seats for the larger person to spread themselves over, they are just ensuring they don't go over a weight limit.

"Les Price, who tips the scales at a mammoth 518 pounds, ended up being told to perch one buttock on row 17 and the other in row 19.

The 43-year-old, from Newport in South Wales, sorted the dilemma out with other passengers before the flight from Ireland took off."

This must have been so humiliating! I know for sure an American would have to beat off the lawyers urging him to sue, sue, sue.

I'm sure this must be the case.

And if so, Maybe they didn't explain this to him, it doesn't seem they have, reading the article.. as difficult as it might have been, im sure if this would have been explained in a delicate way, that it was more about the overall weight of the plane etc., he would have been understanding of "why" he had to pay for 2 seats. (?)

Now it just seems it was sprung on the poor guy without a (delicate) explanation.
