Oscar's naps...

Post by Oscar Namechange »

An exciting day for me tomorrow for It Is Countryside Day at Cheltenham race course where The Thoroughbred Breeders Association stages National Hunt Stallion display.

It's a chance to see some of the best National Hunt Chasers and a chance to try to spot up and coming new pretenders to thrones.

The first race, the 1.15 pm The Steel Plate and Sections Novices chase Is a tough one to call. Only 5 runners and on form I can't put a rizzler paper between Carlito Brigante , Fingal Bay and Unioniste so I'm playing a safer bet by placing a reversed forecast of

Carlito Brigante and Fingal Bay

The 1.50 pm Paddypower, com Handicap Chase.... an each way bet on Arctic Ben

The 2.25 Opus Energy Handicap Chase... again, tough to call but going for a straight win on Tominator

The 3 pm Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase.... no messing about here... straight win on Sizing Australia

3:35 - Irish Times Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle...Each way bet on Akbabend

4:05 - Bates Hats Amateur Riders' Handicap Chase.... Straight win...There's No Panic

Will I return victorious ?

Did I return victorious ? errrrrrrr NO

Not one winner on the day and another reminder to stick to my own advice to avoid Juvenile Novice races.

Still... great day and saw some horses that I think will be future Champions.

Dynaste Impressed me hugely and I may have to take a second look at him for next saturday's betfair Chase,

Roll on tomorrow.... The serious stuff when the big guns roll out.... can't wait.

Skipping the first race tomorrow as nothing there really excites me.

The 1.20 pm I'm going for a straight win on Paul Nicholls entry Sire Collognes... Ruby Walsh In the saddle.

The 1.55 pm I have to go with an each way bet on another Paul Nicholls entry Harry The Viking.... Ruby Walsh rides.

The 2.35 pm... This Is the big one... Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase.... I'm a little concerned after he was so disappointing In this years RSA Chase but for me there Is absolutely no other horse I would wager a straight win on... Grand Crus... Love that horse. Can't wait to see him and this race will be a very good Indication as to weather he's back on form and an Indication of how he'll perform In the Totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup In March.

Nicholls has 3 entries here and one of my favourite Is Al Ferof I really like this horse and would be thrilled to see him shine.

In this race, I have a friend who has an entrant Divers I think he's way out of his class but for my friend, I'm looking forward to seeing him.

The 3.05 pm....I am going to throw all my principles out of the window here and go for an each way bet placed purely on sentiment.... I absolutely adore this horse Kayf Aramis It'll be fantastic to see him again and maybe he can return to form tomorrow.

The last race I'll miss as nothing really excites me here.

When 6 mm of rain fell last night, I knew Grand Crus was doomed.

The going today went from soft to heavy and It was a quagmire and really tough on the horses and jockeys. I had a feeling that Grand Crus was going to be bogged down in the mud so hedged my bets elsewhere. However It was fabulous to see the thoroughbred In the paddock.

I wrote this In my last post:

"Nicholls has 3 entries here and one of my favourite Is Al Ferof I really like this horse and would be thrilled to see him shine."

Due to the condition of the ground I upped the anti on Al Ferof on the course and with only 6 horses from the entire field managing to finish the race, Al Ferof stormed to victory In the big race, the Paddypower.com Gold cup. Fantastic !!!! to see him return to form with Ruby Walsh In the saddle...... RUBY RUBY RUBY !!!!

Also heartwarming to see his owner John Hales land this cup for the first time for trainer Paul Nicholls... John Hales being the owner of this years Grand national winner Neptune Collognes.... he certainly can pick his greys. I will have to look seriously at him now for The King George on Boxing Day.

Also wonderful to see another old favourite of mine In the paddock, Forpaddydeplasterer who won the Jewson for me In 2009..... unfortunate he banked a fence which may have cost him a place.

My friend decided to withdraw Divers from the race after an early morning ground Inspection. Grand Crus was pulled up.

With a second on Sire Collognes and Harry the Viking being pulled up I was way ahead with Al Ferof at 8/1 but then got a text to tell me my one stake at Lingfield today, Ballista had cruised home at 7/1

Decided to have a late punt on the course on a horse that took my eye In the paddock and Ifandbutwhynot came home for me at 15/2

Kayf Aramis was a joy to see In the paddock and ran a game race leading from the start but the conditions were against him 5 out.

Cheltenham Is the place to spot new up and coming champs and the horse I have to say Impressed me most of the day was David Pipe's Our Father I'll be watching him In the future.

Just euphoric that one of my favourites Al Ferof beat the big guns today In the big race.

So for tomorrow, the last day and the major attraction In doubt.

I wrote a thread a while back called ' The one I'll be watching'... and on acquiring this horse, trainer Nicky Henderson described him as ' Gigantic and Scary'

I was really looking forward to see this horse tomorrow but now after the ground conditions today, Henderson has decided to wait until a ground Inspection to see If the superstar Sprinter Sacre will run. He's stated he will not risk the safety of his horses.... good man.

If he runs, then my money will be on him, If he doesn't, then my money will be on Doeslessthanme the Nicholls entrant.

I'm also going for Hendersons Darlan If he runs but If not I'll change my bet to another Nicholls entry Prospect Wells In the 2.50

The 3.25 I'll go for Nicholls Fox Run and the 4.00 another Nicholls entry Fascino Rustico

Bugger

DETERIORATING conditions at Cheltenham have cost Sunday's fixture two of its star attractions, Sprinter Sacre and Darlan.

There was no further rain on top of the 6mm that fell overnight and into Saturday morning but the ground at the close of play on Saturday had been eased to soft, heavy in places.

That was enough for Henderson to draw stumps as regards two of his stable stars: Sprinter Sacre, last season's Arkle winner who was set to make his seasonal reappearance in the Shloer Chase, and Darlan, the Supreme Novices' Hurdle runner-up who was 11-4 for the Racing Post Hurdle.

I've already seen the title of this thread several times before today, but for some reason I just read it as "Oscar's nips".

:wah:

The slang word ' Nap ' Is derived from the card game Napoleon... It means, best hand, ie best bet.
