I am officially OLD!
Apparently at the nearing age of 25, i'm not a spring chicken anymore.
This I was told by my doctor today.
As I struggle with stomach issues (see other thread), I also have some problems with joint pain.. Seen as I was there I thought I'd might ask what she thought of this..
She said I should exercise more (seen as I have a "sit down" job), and not exercising can actually cause pain. She said: see at your age you cannot do the things you got away with when being 16 / 18 years old.
So not only am I supposed to lay off my acid medication for 3 days because of tests on friday, I am also OLD!
I thought this talk didn't come untill your fifties or something!
Any tips on exercising? Tried the gym years ago, but I thought all those strange sweaty bums on gym equipment where quite disgusting. She suggested swimming; but I cant really swim that well, as I seem to sink and Jogging did my knees in..
I thought of getting a crosstrainer so I could do this at home.
God.. I'm classed as old.. when did that happen? :yh_rotfl

If you're old then I'm antideluvian
If swimming's not your thing then try cycling - non-impact and lots of fresh air. Round your way it's even flat!

What a strange attitude from a Doctor !!
Only recently, my husband was told by his Doctor that he was still ' a young un ' at 70 !!! Of which I am duty bound to point out that he Is much older than me.
My Doctor and I discussed exercise very recently and he suggested I started gently with something that got me slightly out of breath every day..... so I started smoking again.

I do understand what she was trying to say as such, I think it was coming out wrong though :wah: .
5 years ago I worked in a reptile shop where we didn't have any chairs. So I was walking through the shop over 8 hours a day. I didn't have much trouble with joint pain then.
The other thing is, although still being the same weight I was back then, all this sitting down seems to be making things go.. well how do I put this... Flabby? No... Softer?
My legs used to be as hard as rocks.. Now not so much anymore :wah:
I don't mind about my body changing as I get older but I'm walking around like some kind of hobbit at the moment as I've slept funny... :-2
Maybe some exercise wouldn't kill me.. Gave me a good laugh though, being classed as "that" age you cannot do what you want anymore ! :yh_rotfl

I'm rather surprised, since I just started with the aches and pains about
4-5 years ago, and I just turned 61!
Have you tried staying on the natural anti-inflams like Turmeric, or
Flaxseed oil?
As far as the exercise, WALK. I take an almost daily 1 hour walk,
and then when I get home I do 35 sit-ups and 50 push-ups. Add
in some balance exercises and stretching, and it's pretty good.
And I can still touch my toes!!
Remember the Marine Corps motto: PAIN IS WEAKNESS LEAVING THE BODY.

Wow that's great!
I think i'll start by joining my mum with her morning dog(s) walk more often. She tends to walk 1 - 2 hours in the mornings.
I went last sunday as well.. Although it was pouring down, it was a nice walk and the dogs seemed to love it!
Got to make a start somewhere :wah:
Like I said, I was never this lazy untill I got a "sit down" job. Not that it's the jobs fault but my exercise used to be during work, and after changing jobs, I never started exercising outside of work to compensate.. Well except that 20 minute cycle to work and back :wah:

Yeah, my dog is often the difference btwn when I go and if I don't,
since I REALLY hate to disappoint her! I'm always glad I did go, though.
Know what you mean on the job thing, I used to have one that was long
hours, at least 10 per day but more often more, and this time of year,
no time before or after work to exercise, and usually only barely got 1/2
hour lunch, so no exercising then, either!

Thanks for asking Oscar. Ups and downs today. Seemed okay at breakfast, Fell over and almost passed out after lunch, dinner has stayed down but my voice is nonexistent at the moment, because of the acid reflux.
Done some study work (animal medical knowledge course) to keep my mind of it as much as possible.
And I'm hoping I can get some sleep tonight.
I'm still very glad my supervisor gave me the 3 days off work.. thank god for that!

I remember a co-worker telling me when I was 25 that I better have a baby soon because my eggs were getting old. People are weird. I would have expected better from a doctor though.

That was very inappropriate of your co-worker... When did 25 become classed as old?!

I'm 55. I was reading something recently and came across a statement the author made that 55 is "late middle age". I had no idea I was one step in the grave already.

You are as old as you feel, I guess.
I'm feeling very old this week..Not because of the doctor but because Stewie (one of my cats) was sick, and as I kept rushing to the loo (acid!), I thought i'd sleep on the sofa so I could keep an eye on Stewie and I could sleep sitting upright..
Stewie stayed with me all night, and i'm glad to say he is fine.
It didn't do my back any good though.. So I was hobbeling around like a hobbit the next day.

Just had a thought.. when I used to walk/stand at work for 8 hours a day, I seemed to have less problems with my acid reflux, maybe moving around more would help my reflux to calm down as well.. Just thinking out loud..
Better wait and see what the results are of my acid test on tuesday first...

There. Enough exercise to last me untill christmas! :yh_rotfl
When out with hubby for a little cycle around.. When to his grandparents grave, cleaned the place up and brought them some flowers.
Think 10 km is more then enough cycling around for today!
