Outrage in the Netherlands

Post by Chloe_88 »

This has kept the dutch minds occupied for the last couple of weeks.

The article explains most of it. Sinterklaas (Saint nicolas) is celebrated on the 5th of december.

Some say Saint nicolas (or Sinterklaas) took african slave children and gave them paid jobs, some say black Pete is black from climbing down the chimney.

So what next; ban santa's little helpers? ban the reindeer?

I'm glad the banning of black pete seems to have blow over. It's not my cup of tea, I prefer christmas. But the dutch kids seem to really enjoy 'Sinterklaas'.

Not to mention I hate "kruidnoten" or "Pepernoten", like a ginger nut but with way more cinnamon and other spices.. Black pete chucks them in to the crowd.. Somehow they always hit me in the head.. Besides I think dog biscuits would probably taste better! :wah: .. I'll just stick with the dundee cake at christmas!
