The camera work is pretty amazing too. I don't think it's real in spite of the explanation at the end.

If they can really keep the trucks that stable, He can do the split.

That was my thought. Wasn't sure it was for real.

This is interesting concerning the video.

Though Volvo has been known to fudge in their commercials. If I read the end properly it said something to the affect that "this was done by professionals" which could mean professional graphic artists because I don't think it specifies drivers or acrobats/gymnasts. The "don't try this..." better be there in order to prevent a law suit. It looks animated too, but then I'm watching it from a 1080p 55" monitor.

Well if it was for real, it has impressed me, but do the buyers for fleets of trucks get easily impressed ?

The complete story.....

I thought when I first watched it, they used cgi but having watched this, it makes it all the more impressive. Both for Van Damme and for the trucks and drivers

That is just a longer and better advert to be honest.

I need to see the trucks stopping and Van Damme dismounting, and would like to know if they were tethered so they couldn't seperate too far.

It's still very difficult to believe. What's missing is the math. The driver of the truck that pulls away has to know exactly how far he can go. This has to be done by measuring VanDamm's split and then a reference point for the driver not to exceed in distance. All that is missing from the explanation. Instead, what this video looks like is an infomercial. The actors are all performing in front of a team of cameras, directors and other related staff. Don't forget that part.

I could be completely wrong of course.

I imagine they would have some sensor measuring the distance for the drivers. Matching speeds would be no problem with speed control.

Only one truck moves laterally while the other stays going in a straight line. There can be any number of ways to keep going straight down the road.

my 2cents

[edt Looking at it a second time, the truck which moves away seems to be following a line of paint splats next to a solid line which should be visible by the bubble mirror. The other truck just stays on a sollid line[/edt

Whatever the truth of the whole thing, the advertising campaign worked, it got all us talking about it, that was the point behind it.

The first time I watch, I did not get that these are tractor-trailer rigs. Noe I am even more impressed.

It's interesting that we don't get to see them start out.

Actually (and no I'm not trying to be a smartarse here) they are MR trucks. Very easy to back up. And it's easy because you back with mirrors and lines and in this case I believe a lot of practice. But they would also have been rather professional drivers. Even heavy combination rigs are easier to back then a car and trailer. It all comes down to where and what axle you're working with.

So in the end, your truck and it's reversing capability is down (as always) to the driver.
