Free Speech....bad taste ?

Post by Bruv »

A sandwich shop owner endured an eight-hour grilling by police and had his computer seized for three weeks – after cracking sick Nelson Mandela jokes on the net.

Neil Phillips, who runs Crumbs in the heart of former staunch Staffordshire mining community Rugeley, says he was quizzed, finger-printed and DNA swabbed following complaints about what he refers to as “Bernard Manning gags.

In one, he posted: “My PC takes so long to shut down I’ve decided to call it Nelson Mandela.

I believe humour is untouchable.

Nothing is out of bounds..............other than common sense when and where you use it ie. nob gags in front of the Vicar's wife or your mother in law.

There must be more to this story, local personalities feuding, it was a membership only site for heavens sake.
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

It has sinister undertones the way I see It.

Jokes about deceased famous people have been going on for decades. I remember some pretty sick one's about Princess Diana. I myself have joked In the past that Prince Phillip had arranged the car crash.

But then..... none of those deceased celebs weve all joked about have been black.

Sorry I laughed but only because when he was in Hospital, it was like .........for gods sake let the man die already' ...... So I get the joke. And it's funny . DNA and finger printed because of bad jokes? WATCH OUT Bill Odie!!!!

I've got a few knock knock jokes along those lines but I'm now afraid it's against the law to tell any jokes.

You are wrong in that you dared to openly expressed such a thought.

You just opened yourself to being accused of being a racist.

Of course there is no way to defend yourself against a baseless accusation like that.

Hint: Never bother to mention that some of your best friends or family members are of the COLORED folk. It will be seen as patronizing.

Now to protect my back, when I used the words "colored" folk", I was thinking of the "People of Color". concept, whatever that means.

That you noticed a black man was black or that you think that was the basis of the sandwhich makers problems with old bill?

Why are you embarrassed to call black people black ?

I go green with envy, red with rage, white when ill, blue when cold, my black wife only goes darker black in the sun, she would be angry if you called her coloured, believe me.

It is patronizing. You don't remember "some of my best friends are Jews"? "Of the COLORED Folk"(how folksy) is patronizing & let's not forget Condescending. Treat people as people first. Some of my best friends are Red-Haired Folk. Stupid. That guy! He Wears Glasses! One of those Glasses-Wearing Folks! That other guy---One of those Bald Guy Folks!

Martin Luther King ? Whitney Houston ? Jimmi Hendrix ? Tupac ?

Now before you mock the difference, you have to understand the perception of ' famous'.

When you refer to a Statesman as ' famous' , I bet you most people under the age of 18 have given him very little thought. Yet the same age group would consider Whitney Houston as more famous. Position and standing does not rule fame per say.

You can have a politician that 1 million have heard of and a singer who 30 million have heard of.

Just to prove my point of how fame Is perceived then look no further than this.

BBC receives more than 1,000 complaints about extensive coverage of Nelson Mandela's death after viewers are angered by decision to interrupt Mrs Brown's Boys | Mail Online

These people actually complained that the coverage of Mandela ruined their viewing of Mrs Brown's Boys, a comedy show.

Now here's one for you Bruv . How many people have been arrested for joking about white deceased people? How many people have been arrested for joking about other deceased world leaders? How many arrests do you think there will be when the jokes appear as soon as Prince Phillip dies? Hmmmmmm ??????????

If you can't answer those then tell me... why do you think the guy was arrested and not millions of others who have joked about the demise of other world leaders?

Oh I forgot Malcolm X

The guy was arrested after complaints about his joke on Facebook. Seriously, does anyone really believe that the same complaints would have been made If he was joking about a white leader? So the people who complained, complained because they got touchy over Mandela's colour of skin and not just another deceased world leader,

How many arrests were made when Facebook was awash with jokes about Margaret Thatcher?

It was also after he had eaten his tea, had a shower, sent his mother a birthday card, had his daily dump......I am being facetious of course.

My opening post asked if it was really about the so called jokes or was it a fued between local personalities............that used the jokes as an excuse....an extremely poor excuse at that.

They'll probably come out and say it was some obscure tribal sign language.

Apparently this is not his first performance. How can that happen? Whilst he was on stage people all around the world were asking over the net what language he was signing in. Nobody knew.

and then it happens......... when shows in America took the piss out of this guy suddenly it's "interpreted" as taking the piss out of deaf people ...not sure how that one works.
