Neighbourhood Christmas parties

Sigh............ Do any of you guys have them? Having to talk to people that we usually try to avoid. Sitting there thinking " Okay I've done my neighbourly duty ..can I go now?"

Then someone arrives and they are introduced to everyone. And you hear." Aren't you Brett's mum?".......mind begins racing "oh **** what's he done now?" ..

"I'm Jakes mum"........... Okay false alarm, the boys were in Cadets together. Breathe again.

Food. And even more food. And then people try to be polite, and have to try out everyone's food so as not to offend. A gluttons paradise.

I'm not looking! I'm not looking! ....Damn!!!! caught my eye and supposedly my attention. Here we go ..........."No I haven't seen you for a while". "Me?..oh I've been hybernating". And so it goes on and on . Polite chitter chatter.

The christmas lights are mentioned .......then the bloke down the road mentions how he needs more lights after everyone says how pretty his neighbours lights are. A head turns and you can see the twitch in the eye. The War of the Christmas lights has begun!!!!.

Dear God get me outta here!!!!!

Nope. I avoid those things. We do attend the family get-together, but we have little more than a passing "howdy" on the dog walk when it comes to neighbors.

Oh and the question. "How are the boys doing" .....Same answer as last year ya nosey parker!!!! "they're teenagers, they get out of bed and everyone rejoices their efforts"..........Sorry, I just find it excruciating .

All year everyone gossips about everyone else......"his musics too loud"................. "why does he have to toot every time he leaves the house"............"oh hasn't she put on weight"........."she's been visiting and getting quite chummy with the neighbour" ....... :-5:-5:-5

I don't even live in this street why do I have to be here????!!!! Living down a lonely dirt road actually has it's merits.

because I'm nice........yes I know it's hard to believe but in real life I'm actually quite a caring responsible person. Granted I like to live on the edge and do things my way but ..all in all I'm a nice person...Basically I was invited. I used to live around the corner and I fish here often so I suppose I really didn't leave (persay) once I moved house. But I'm also about to rent a large shed for some lead light training and set up a few more wood working machines in the exact vicinity. So? I really don't have a choice.

Don't get me wrong a couple of people around here I do actually have a lot of time for. Last years party was very layed back and people just came and went as they pleased.

My friend says it's his turn next year........... So I have an idea. Lets not be mundane about this .

1. Get everyone blind drunk

2. Begin a street riot

3. Smash a few street lights.......(people have been complaining about them for ages, we'll get some new ones.)

4. Burn down all the tree's and large bushes people have been complaining about blocking their view of the sea.

5. Burn down and destroy the boats of the psuedo millionaires trying to take over the town that they only holiday in ....And wanting to dredge our inlet because their big boats get stuck.

6. Get rid of that stupid woman who is in everyone's ear about conservation and who turns all the politicians against us because of her constant rantings. There are 83 permanant residents here and yes they would at least like a small shop so as not to have to drive 14 km's to buy a freaking paper!!!

7.It takes about 40 minutes for police to arrive at this time of year. So there's plenty of time for neighbours to return to their homes and pretend they've been asleep for the duration.

Now that's christian neighbourly love. Everyone co-operating for the same ends. That's what brings a community together .

See that's the bit I don't get. If you were such a nice person, why would you rush home to log on and sneer at the people you've just spent the evening with? :-2:wah:

Every year I hold a Christmas get together for the neighbours. One of my Immediate neighbours has just lost her husband at 42 to throat cancer, It gives the opportunity to see people care about her. The elderly who may not see a soul all week get the chance to talk to others. The Lonely get chance to meet people and people just moving Into the area get to know their neighbours. Yes, some people are boring but you can bet your life, If you found them tedious, they probably found you even more tedious.

Opening yourself up to others Is Invariably rewarding....

Back to normal programming.

Bah humbug. I was asked to go shopping on Monday with my friend. ..........until of course I reminded him that I hate shops in normal circumstances, why in gods name would i want to sail around them in the Christmas rush?

There's a reason I made all my own decorations this year and a very good reason I've made presents for everyone. I made a christmas wreath out of garbage bags and knitted a christmas tree....I'll put the pics up when I can.

and I was right about the christmas light war.....even more have gone up.......sigh.

My post was a wild stab at the hope you may have second thoughts about your OP/

You said there was a lot of food at this party? So someone If not a few people went to a huge amount of expense and time to lay on food for the neighbours. So you go along, eat the food, drink the drink and then rush home to sneer at them?

The people who tried to make conversation with you may have thought you were lonely and were trying to be kind and Include you. They themselves may have been lonely and wanted someone to talk to.

I'll leave you here now.

So no Fuzzy, I don't think It's terribly witty or amusing to come home and sneer at people who obviously went to a lot of trouble and expense to do something nice for the neighbours especially when you appear to have grabbed their free hospitality with both hands before rushing home to post here what a bunch of losers they all are,

Why post like this If you can't take crtitism ? What I have said to you Is no more than Bruv, gmc or Snowfire would have said to me had I posted the same OP.

How would you feel If It had been you who had bought all the food, prepared It and went to all that trouble to do something nice only to hear they were all sneering at you ?

I'm mightily pleased to report that I have attended no neighbourly get togethers, I'd be with Fuzzy on the tedium of them :wah:

I'd agree with you... some neighbourhood parties can be tedious... but would you come home and sneer at the people who went to all the expense and trouble of organising one? No... I don't think you would.

So Anyway..........

The neighbourhood Christmas agony continues......all the kids and their new bikes. Guess who may not be with us by new years?

Sitting at my friends house yesterday...I almost died of fright. I could see straight down the main road where I was sitting at the kitchen table.

I could see a car coming up the road. Then off to the side a child on a bike is hurtling out the driveway of his home. All I could get out of my mouth was "AWWWHHHH ****" Car suddenly halts. Thank god he's seen him, but the the kid keeps going without a care in the world. The car hasn't yet past and a little one on his bike hurtles behind that car. Again I shout "Holy ****" . Before I can even get that out of my mouth and whilst another car approaches in the opposite direction a third child screams out of the drive. The approaching car already seeing the first two kids and the other car slows down barely missing the third child.

My friend asked what all the expletives was about . I asked if he'd glanced at his first aid notes recently. He said 'why?' ....I responded "concentrate on CPR for children under 12."

God, I felt so sick. I know at least two of these children has had 'bike ed' at school. No excuse for that.

I live in a predominantly Jewish neighborhood (many are Russian), with a growing Muslim & Asian population, so I don't see a lot of Xmas around here.

Well it's in the early hours of Christmas morning here . (why am i still up when I don't have any kids around? In pain today and took some painkillers ...you know the ones that make you drowsy? ..well I had a good sleep and I'm not in pain anymore lol lol lol ................but I'm awake now, yeepee ..........not)

the power went out about an hour ago and on such a still quiet night that only means one thing down this way. ..........someone has tickled a power pole. I hope they are okay. Not the best way to begin Christmas day.
