Here's another one for you...

Post by Oscar Namechange »

You have a few friends around for drinks and nibbles...

The evening goes well and then one of your friends breaks one of your plates... but the plate Is part of your dinner service.

Do you :

A ) Feel bad they are so embarresed ?

B ) Suppress the urge to punch them In the face ?

C ) Invent all kinds of excuses as to why you never really like that dinner service anyway just to spare them.?

D ) Go Into another room and cry. ?

Last night I opted for C but I am sure there Is a site somewhere that you can buy odd plates of all dinner services... anyone here seen such a thing?

There is such a site. My wife found a plate for her set after one of the grandkids broke one.

I will find out where she found it and post it here.

Possibly all four.

Drinks and nibbles aren't the sort of party I frequent. Drinks are fine but nibbling is one social interaction too far

Thanks Lars

Actually there's an option D

As the guest was a local Tory Councillor, I could sue the Tory party for damages. :wah:

I did actually want to cry but I found myself saying ' No please, the fault Is all mine... If I didn't have a tiled floor In my lounge It would never have broken.'

My dogs looking at me as though to say ' we'll remember that next time'

You have to have nibbles. It's the law... article 7 of section 5 of the Human rights Act.

Apparently when my Grandmother had a pub, she'd laden the bar with free nibbles, the saltier the better... the more salt they ate, the more drink they'd order.

Here's a well-known site for buying replacement china pieces ~~~~~> Replacements, Ltd Discontinued and Active China Matching Service

A few years ago, I bought some saucers from them that match some pretty cups I picked up at a thrift store and it was a smooth transaction.

Well, no, It's not just a plate. It's part of a dinner service that my husband went to the trouble of choosing for me and buying for me as a gift. Given his health, I happen to cherish everything that man has ever taken the trouble to buy for me.

In hindsight, the fault Is entirely mine and I should not have used It that night but your comment Is typical of the revolting throw away society we now live In, where nothing matters because It can all be so easily replaced or thrown away.

Okay, I understand the plate meant something to you. It's broken, it can't be fixed. In the end it is still a "plate".

How you turn my comment into:

"typical of the revolting throw away society we now live in, where nothing matters because it can be so easily replaced or thrown away"

I have no idea. Take offense if you wish but my comment was just meant that there are far more important things in life than a broken plate.

Not often Everybody is right is it ?

Firstly oscar has worked out herself it wasn't clever giving people her best plates and alcohol, secondly there are more important things than plates, and ironically the gift ITSELF is the more important thing in this situation........that just happens to be.....plates.

I have just confused myself

Lesson learned.........don't cast pearls before drunken swine?

(Not that ALL Tories are swines of course)
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

Tabby, I thank you again for taking the trouble to find this site for me.... Unfortunately, they do not at present have my dinner service.

I suppose I have at least learned not to mix Tories, alcohol, and my plates. :wah:

I'll keep looking on E Bay... I may get lucky one day.

Another suggestion?

Is it 6 of each to a set ?

Smash the other "odd" pieces ?

Tell everyone its a new style metric set...........if they are nosey enough to notice.
