Is this a forum that is concentrating on religion ?

Post by G#Gill »

I've just checked and as far as I can tell, out of 25 listed threads 14 of them are about religion ! Now what I want to know is - is Forum Garden moving ever closer to being a religious forum ? Personally I hope not, because that would be the end of Forum Garden. Many members have left for one reason or another. I left because I was bullied off, along with one or two other long-standing members. Others have left because they couldn't stand the bickering and nastiness that seemed to be fairly prevalent in FG at that time, a similar reason to mine as it happens. Some have left because they have found that Facebook is more interesting and they can keep in touch with relatives there. Others have left because they are too busy with their own lives to spend time being involved with internet 'chat forums'.

I would have thought that, as there are many other forums devoted to religion, that Forum Garden could somehow keep these sort of threads down to a very basic minimum. They are not everybody's 'cup of tea' and if people want to discuss religious matters, thoughts etc. they should find their way to a religious orientated forum surely. I would not like to suggest banning religious subjects from Forum Garden, but it would even things out if there was a sort of watch kept on the general balance of subject matter, so that ALL tastes are catered for. I include politics with this suggestion too, because that subject also can take over a forum !

Just a thought ! What do others think ?

Had you looked a week ago the picture was entirely different. If you look again next month it will be different again. You know perfectly well it's a blip and not a trend. It's a blip that's obviously capable of being transformed into yet another moan though.

We went through this with Mikael (sp? don't care) a few months ago and he agreed to contain his thoughts in a few threads. It looks like he's forgotten his promise.

Carry on, soon it will a place that just generally moans about people who are actually being active.

Just a thought, if someone's left, how can they still be here, and posting !?

I'd say instead of moaning start posting topics to discuss that are not moaning or generally picking holes in FG. That way you can keep yourselves busy and not having to stew over seeing threads you DON'T like.

Yes, he did agree to contain his threads, in a response to one of my posts.

Just a thought ! What do others think ? Gilly.... you know I love you dearly and we are friends In real life as well as here :-4:-4:-4 But.....

How Is your OP helpful ?

I have to agree with Tyr that the religous thing Is a blip... I think Mikiel Is just updating some of his threads In one go... as Tyr said... other times, It's a completely different picture.

Yes, there have been times on FG where there has been bullying etc, but since Bryn took over the gaff, much of that has vanished. I just don't see the point of re-hashing It all now. Members come and go all the time for various reasons but new members here won't know what you're talking about.

Funny how those who complain about the content seem to post very little new threads themselves,

Well, since we're moaning here... whenever I post a new thread, it's usually something I think is really funny or interesting and it bugs the crap out of me when it inevitably gets buried by someone on a posting spree that fills the first two pages with threads no one posts in anyway.

Sorry folks, I omitted to mention that, as I have been popping in to read for some time now I have noticed over time that certain members who were possibly instrumental in certain disagreements in the past, have now left. This is why I have found myself posting again in a much improved Forum Garden ! I wasn't 'moaning' as has been suggested, I was making an observation and also agreeing with what Jj said. A gauntlet has been thrown down, it seems, concerning 'doing something about it' to try to improve the selection of threads visitors see on the front page. OK............................. thinking caps are on. :wah: :lips: :p :sneaky:

Here, here, Snooz (didn't you used to have an 'e' at the end ? :lips:). That is something which is always happening, it's as if nobody is bothered to read your post! Well something must be done about that, don't you think. Mind you, you just can't make people read what you've written can you ? If they choose to ignore your post or your thread, well that's their loss !!!!!

You keep posting chuck - I read your threads, although I have to admit that I may not have anything come to mind to say in addition to what you have posted. Yes it can be a bit disheartening if you feel nobody is bothered. :-5

The only place it looks that way at the moment is when you list New posts, right after someone goes around and posts updates to all of his threads.

Other times, like usually Sunday's another person comes around and updates all his threads, and for a while, it looks like we are a political conspiracy nutcase forum.

Then it settles back to looking somewhat normal, unless yet another one updates all of her horse racing threads, or another one updates all his retro pics threads.

Another forum I inhabit is showing the same sort of patterns, but for different subjects.

In actual fact, following the 'Ban Mikiel' thread, I did take on board other members comments and Instead of creating new threads for every big race, I combined them all In my ' Warning' thread. Different with The King George, The Gold Cup and The Grand National as they tend to be of Interest to those who may have a bet once a year. But I have tried to keep all my races to one thread to spare members. But, I know what you mean... when they get bumped, It looks like the front page Is horse-racing.

Simple fact is we have very few regular posting members and a number of those are mostly reactive.

So when any one of the regulars gets on a kick, we will see a "trend"

Okay everyone, why don't you jot down all your interests and someone else can post threads for you so you can remain interested in reading the forum?

lets see? I wonder how Shumacher is going . Still in that coma is he? That's one for sports and the motoring forum.

I believe they are still trying to broker a deal in the middle east.....and failing again. International politics.

When does that English flower show happen? I think we won it last year.

We have a few medical threads going but we obviously don't have any relationship dramas among us just recently............don't worry if anyone can think of a drama members here certainly can. .

hmmmm still thinking................what else would you like handed to you on a ****ing plate? And why in the **** would anyone want to begin a thread after reading this thread where you've just told an entire forum that their threads are ****. Why would anyone bother?

I think the only person that should be allowed to start new threads is Tabby.

Religion and politics are two areas that interest many people. It is almost impossible to discuss current affairs without getting in to politics, gun control, abortion, welfare etc are all political subjects and areas where there is massive disagreement between those on either side of the pond. Religion and politics are intermixed and you have religious groups determined to change the world to suit their beliefs by force if necessary.

if you don't find the subject interesting don't bother looking at it. The nastiness I remember is people butting in complaining about people talking about the subject of the thread and why can't you talk about something interesting - there were even people who complained - this on a discussion forum remember - about people arguing we all agree to disagree and not challenge someone's fondly held belief.

Post subjects that interest you and ignore those that don't. The apparent religious slant is due to one or two individuals posting interminable rambles to themselves. I wouldn't ban them because of the subject matter I would ban them because they never engage is discourse and are rather indulging in a form of mental masturbation - it makes them feel good but is ultimately pointless and a bit off-putting for everyone else. Although occasionally another joins in and well anyway I think I will stop the analogy there.

Rather than suggesting those who like to discuss religion and politics gravitate towards those kind of specific forums I would like to suggest you ignore subjects you find boring and try posting threads that are of interest to you and see if anyone else is interested.

As to the bullying, grow up it's an anonymous forum - I had a couple of people PM me trying to bully me all I did was pm back telling them to get a life and take a running f at themselves and ignored them from then on. Don't read posts that offend you and ignore those who do. If this post offends you I suggest you spend two seconds being offended and then move on.

The Irony was, the member who tried bullying him then went on to claim they were being bullied.
