Oddly enough, I find the smell of diesel fuel a bit pleasing.

We traveled a lot when I was young, and I continued to do so ever since.

A hint of diesel in the air triggers a sense of adventure in me.

I agree with those listed and I'm going to add "anything with cinnamon or nutmeg being baked in the oven".

The article refers to American spice ... what is that?

Me too. Also asphalt. I picked that up hitch-hiking in England, & when I smell it I think of those adventures.

Tabby I don't actually know what American spice is, my favorites of the ones listed are baking bread and peppermint. :)

There are so many wonderful smells on this planet. Roses. Oceans. Clean running streams. A cat's breath. Yum. Not dog breath though unless you brush their teeth.

Though surreal it's unfortunately accurate. Some parts are hard to watch. Worth it, IMO.

I had no idea! I googled viburnum and I see those plants used in landscaping a lot but never knew what they were!

As far as flowers go, my favorite fragrance is a hyacinth with honeysuckle coming in a close second.

I think anyone is going to be happier smelling nice things rather than smelling putrid things. I'm surely going to be nicer to someone if the smell like cooked bacon with a hint of fried onions than I am to someone who smells like a sweaty armpit.

Good smells won't change your core personality but I'm sure they can temporarily alter mood in a subtle way.

Yes I think I would be happier around someone with a nice smell. Actually my mom and I made soup a couple of days ago and when we make this stuff the smells gets into your clothes and your hair and I came out smelling like onions and tomatoes. :)

I know that my mood improves noticeably when I get an aroma I like.

Another favorite of mine is fresh rain on the streets.

Most of the above, including the rain

Freshly mown lawn

Wood burning on the fire (I know ! Where else would it burn )

Getting into a bed of freshly laundered sheets

Fresias, freshly mown grass, fresh ground coffee, grilling bacon (particularly outside attacking the nostrils and coming in on the breeze LOL)

honeysuckle, certain roses, freshly baked bread.
