Religion Rules ... Right?
I was not a nice person at school.
There was an incident with a shy Jewish girl in my class. A boy had been grabbing her privates that week. I already put in a complaint as she was too shy, I had already pinned the boy to the wall. My mum had warned if it didn't stop, she would be putting in a complaint, and that what her daughter (me) would do, would be far worse (something about the boy will be picking his balls from his nose)..
Teachers ignored. Even when the kid stood up in dutch class, yelled Heil Hitler, and marched through the class. The teacher laughed.
I was appalled.
Story short: The girls sister ended up hitting the kid, it went to the police, I was the ONLY one who would give a statement of what that boy had done in dutch class.
Charges where dropped, but nothing was done about the boy bullying that girl.
I ended up doing my school project on religion and most of it on the Jewish religion.
I was marked an F, because it was not something they wanted to hear about.
All so making this part of the story short, I ended up so mad, I blacked out, and "woke up" when I had the teacher pinned to the wall, across the hallway. Later I heard that teacher was off work for 6 months because of an attack by a student. But didn't press charges. I left that school after that.
The Jewish girl was never picked on again, finished her studies, and went of to college.
I don't know what ever happend to her after college.. i'm s.hit at keeping contact.... but at least they left her alone a that terrible secondary school from there on..

A teacher who laughs at heil hitler. This is a tragic story, & since you are young, it happened too recently for any excuse at all.
YOU WERE A NICE PERSON AT SCHOOL.
I'm proud to know you.

Thanks Anne. It was about 10 years ago though.
I was never asked to give a police statement, I asked (well ordered) my mum to drive me there so I could give a police statement. :wah:
The girls father came round that evening to thank me, I was the only one that would give a statement.
After that I never spoke to the other 3 girls that where my and her (jewish girl) so called friends.
If they where true friends, they would have stuck up for her. At least given a statement to the police.

10 years ago is the 21st Century! Laughing at Hitler jokes directed at a Jew show a backwardness that belongs in the rural South of the U.S., and maybe even they would be offended. That teacher should have been fired. Here, the boy would have been charged with a Hate Crime (which may be excessive, but that's what would happen). Disgusting, utterly & thoroughly.
And you Chloe, are a brave, courageous & sensitive girl & I am proud to know you!

You make me blush
I just did what I felt was the best/good thing to do.
In this, my point also being; I am not religious, I don't have any interest in religion. But I didn't beat up on someone for being so. In fact I stood up for her.
Besides she never forced her religion on me so.. In fact she accepted me for who I was , at the time a mad gothic person. :wah:

Couldn't agree more. I'm suprised it was allowed to get out of hand as much as it did. I look at the Netherlands as quite an open and progressive country.

The school that this happend at, is rated one of the worst atm. A year ago i was called by a reporter trying to get (ex) students to speak up.
Again i was about the only one that would.
In my experience, the dutch like/prefer to shove as much as they can under the carpet.

To add in there.
I ended up hating that school for allowing the bullying to go on like that.
After the Jewish incident, I did end up a weed smoking gothic hippy, just to get through the day.
Soon after I left the school for a different one and picked back up on to "normal" life.
* I don't recommend playing volleyball at school stoned though.. has a weird effect :wah:

Having been raised in the rural South, I take some offense to that. Such behavior does NOT belong even there.
And no teacher I ever knew would tolerate that in their classroom.
I had several Jewish friends in high school. We would have had that young man hanging by his ankles from the divots of Harold Bernstein's boat dock, had he been in our class.

That is wonderful to hear. Was it a rural part of Miss. Ala. or Louis.?????? That's the deep rural I was thinking of. It's fabulous to be corrected on that notion!

You did say that. Thanks. Yes there are people in the South who will test your stage of enlightenment. I won't deny that, but most Southerners are really more of the live-and-let-live variety, who have a respect for others. Like many regions of the world it is the toxic minority who manage to claim most of the attention.
I grew up in Rural North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, with many ventures into Louisiana and Mississippi.
And I don't want to hijack the thread. You three (Gill, Chloe and Anne) are of the stuff heroes are made. Standing up to bullies will never go out of style.
On a personal note: We moved around a lot when I was a kid, and I was in a new school at least every year.
The new kid always gets tested, and it was years before I realized that was the case. I was a shy kid and never really got why the kids were picking on me.
It was not until my 7th grade class that I finally had enough, and stood up to a kid in class. We ended up in detention and grew to be good friends after that. I then knew that standing up was the way to deal with them and had no more problems.

I learned from the best Lars. My mum & dad
When we moved to holland they met a south african (white) lady.
She would always say in that clipped accent: "You know what you should do?!"
She always went on about black people. Things like, they steal your car, use it as a taxi, when you get it back you can never get the smell of the k*****s out of your car.
One day she suggested my mum stab me with a fork, everytime I did something wrong!
My mum&dad stood up to her mindless jabber one day, and told her what for. They never spoke to her again after that.

Anne, we wouldn't make Hitler jokes around a Jewish person here in the rural areas of the South. at least no one I know is that backward or that mean.

Hey ! There are a few fiesty women on this site !!!! :wah: Anne and Chloe, nice one ! There are times when we girls have to make a stand, and I guess the lads on the receiving end of our violence realise that we won't take any of their bullying, and they stay away from us. It's a pity that some people feel the need to bully in the first place, then they''re upset that they've had to learn the hard way ! :wah: I suppose it is in some folks' make-up that they have to pick on 'the new boy' or 'the new girl', Lars, maybe a sort of testing the water type of thing, but probably with violence or nastiness.
I used to hate it when some kids would pick on another who wore eye glasses, or was slightly crippled. Mostly those with such handicaps were shy or frightened easily so they became easy prey. I wore eye glasses at the primary school and up to the age of about 15, but they soon learned that I could stick up for myself ! I also had long black plaits that were always a target to give a good tug on. I was quite quick with the old back-hand swipe though, so after a few times when I'd catch them a real fourpenny one, they decided to wave a white flag and left me alone ! Strange that nobody ever reported me to a teacher, even though one time I made one lad's nose bleed rather profusely ! :yh_rotfl

Cause they knew they were the ones in the wrong!
I'm surprised the police didn't come after me, especially after the "teacher in the hallway incident". I guess even she knew she was the one who was in the wrong.
I caught almost every teacher in that school for doing something naughty. Except one, my "hippy" crafts teacher, he was a nice guy.
I caught teachers: being "racists" (3 of them in total). touching up girls (male gym teacher). Letting kids with fails on each subject pass because they were teachers pet. Drunks. Teachers watching a punch up on school grounds, cheering on the fight (wtf). Etc. etc.
I think I could go on forever.. Terrible school.. Glad I left there when I did.
I'm not a violent person, but the demon in me will rise when people are not treated fair, or are being bullied/abused.
My (ex) employer from 5 years ago, is still scared to talk to me. He was quite a big bloke (wife beater).. When he thought he could do something like that to me, he was very wrong. Till this day he still asks ex colleagues of mine, if i'm still mad at him.
Think I made quite an impression :wah:
