I find that totaly disgraceful and heartless. Typical of a lot of our MPs - they just do not care about people. The MP and his family are safe and well so the rest of the country can go hang !
I hope the identity of that pathetic excuse for a man is found out and made public - name and shame. There was a discussion in the UK Parliament during Prime Minister's Questions about the terrible Somerset floods and what the Government intend to do about helping the people who live and work there. Some cretin of a Labour MP shouted "Teach them to swim !" What makes these idiots tick ? They have no idea what the situation is like for those poor Somerset people, and the weather hasn't finished with them yet ! That MP should be identified and sacked !!!!! It really is about time that some of these bloody MPs grew up and took their elected position seriously - it isn't a game, or hasn't somebody explained that to them?

As much as I despise the Labour Party, I don't believe It for a minute.
At PMQs the floods in Somerset were being discussed, parts of that fine county having been submerged for a month. A voice from the Labour benches apparently shouted: ‘Teach them to swim.’
There was such a din, I did not myself hear the alleged words. Jeremy Browne (Lib Dem, Taunton) was on his feet at this time. Mr Browne, sporting a splendid new ginger beard – it is the beard of a polar explorer, a Chekhovian lover, or possibly a Danish nudist – was asking the PM what the Government intended to do about the floods.

Why would any MP commit political suicide?

OK, then what is the point of saying that somebody said what was quoted ? Strikes me that somebody's messing about, but we'll see. Other MPs in the past have opened their mouths and put their size 12's in, in the past leaving themselves open to ridicule and I've no doubt that MPs will do it again in the future, so there is no reason why people should not believe that those words were actually said during a discussion about what the government is doing about the Somerset floods.

No mention of this on this evenings news. Pretty sure it would have made it if there was any substance Gill

Making such a comment distracts the people from any real discussion that might be going on.
In my college days, I had a friend who was an expert at such stuff. Sit at a bar and wait for a couple of guys in their cups to get a bit of an argument going. Just suggest that one of them said something derogatory about the other. The discussion turns to what might have been said, and soon the fists come out. Sit back and watch the fight.
Beat whatever sport was on the tube.
We used to take bets on how long it would take for him to get a couple of frat boys to come to blows. His record was 1:14
Some of these "journalists" are of the same ilk

I agree... If there was a shred of evidence, there would be calls for a resignation and a public outcry from all tabloids...
Besides which.. Back Benchers are not Labour exclusive... there would have been MP's on those back benches representing Somerset and surrounding flooded area's... It's highly unlikely given they all know they are being televised.

I'm beginning to think that myself. I shall have to watch out for Quentin Letts. I guess he could be s.hit stirring (labour MP was mentioned in his report).

Invariably Quinten Letts has to retract the garbage of which he's free to write.

A week on and nothing... looks like that turned out to be a pile of crock then.
So quick to judge MP's when from what I've seen, most of them have been deeply concerned about the effect of the flooding...

As far as I have seen in the past, most MPs seem to be self-serving pratts only making the right sort of noises to fit the circumstances of the moment in order to fool the general public, who foolishly elected them, into thinking their MPs are working well. I believe you could count on one hand the number of genuine and sincere MPs.

Politicians, by nature, see to be "self-serving pratts"
I don't know if all of the start out that way, but by the time they actually start to get elected, they have evolved from the crusaders out to make a difference to the people-pleasing, campaigners that can make people trust them. And learned how to line their pockets in the process.

High profile MP's do sadly lose touch. Those who end up In Government and In the cabinet with high ranking positions such as Home Secretary etc, have so much work on within the Cabinet that they do have little time left for constituants. Yet, the back benchers not In the ruling Government, still do a great job with their constituants. If that were not the case, you'd not see them re-elected time after time.
