Wasting food?

Post by Chloe_88 »

Wasting food.. I hate when that happens..

I decided I'm going to have salmon for dinner tonight. Normally I have that with some corn and a baked potato.

But... I still had a cauliflower that needed to be used like today..

And I still had a little bit of cheese in the fridge.. couldn't slice it for sandwiches anymore, but good for grating. In my store cupboard I found a ham-cheese sauce that needed to be used soon.. and the last, little bit sorry looking tomato was sitting on the side.

So I decided to slice some potatoes and boil them with the cauliflower for a few mins..

I layered the potatoes and slices of cauliflower in an oven dish, put the sauce in there, sliced tomato on the top.. and sprinkled cheese over the top.

Wonder what it will taste like ??

Sometimes it works out well, sometimes it's a flop.

Some of the things I came up with spontaneously, we still re-create today. (some we don't :wah: )

What do you do with bits and bobs you find in the cupboard/fridge?

If we get to it before it becomes a science project, we often make soup out of it all.

But we have a 23 year old grandson staying with us, fresh out of college, and very few leftovers remain in the fridge for long, lately.

Wasting food?

I grew up before ready meals became the norm and I bless every day that I had a Mother who taught me to cook. I am no great cake baker, that's one thing I can't get right but my Mother taught me that a good stock cupboard Is essential,

Basics like noodles, rice, pulses, eggs and spices...

My regular knock up Is noodles with shredded left over meat, anything like mushrooms, tomato's. I always have fresh ginger and garlic In the house and then knock up a sauce out of sweet chilli sauce, honey and Soy sauce....That's expecially scum with sliced rare steak.

Cauliflour cheese Is another regular and there's no rule to say you can't add carrots or whatever Is left over.

My Mother used everything... think It came from rationing In the war.
