Now.. I blame AnneBoleyn for this! (no worries, in a good way!)
In another thread speaking of Russia.. It reminded me of foods my russian babysitter gave me. I don't know what her name was.. but she was Ruslan's mum (a boy in my class), so we called her Mama Ruslan.
I have no clue what the foods contained but it was the best food ever.
My mum was never pleased because mama Ruslan used to feed me so much at lunchtime, that i couldn't even finish my dinner at home.
Till this day, I still don't know what the heck mama Ruslan fed me.
Ever eaten something you had no idea what it was, but loved it?
I'm like so hungry right now, just thinking about it! :yh_rotfl

I think she did make that one day..
She also made something that almost looked like gnocchi in a stew (?)

Varenyky. Or Perogi. Kasha varnishkes, in a gorshochki, a beef stew. They like cabbage a lot (belch belch fart fart) & wash it all down in a few liters of Vodka, which they pronounce 'Wodka'.
Too much Wodka makes you Womit.

How cool.. I think that was it! Almost 20 years wondering about that.. Thanks Anne.
I think at 6 years old I was too young for wodka. :wah:
I remember when my friend (real dutch: eat potatoes, veg and meat every day) said she was going to eat foreign food one night..
I stomped home telling my mum I wanted to eat foreign foods..
Well we had chili, lasagne etc. that week already. And all the unknown stuff mama ruslan had made.....
So my mum said: Okay, what's foreign food then, what would you like? My response: I don't know, but I would like some!
Turned out my friend was having boring old lasagne that night! :wah:

Next time a Russian restaurant puts a flyer under my door (should be any minute now!) I'll reprint it here for you Chloe.

I Loved the Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam! Couldn't get enough of something I think was called 'Bami Gourang????' or something similar where, when they brought the steaming noodles & beef or chicken to your table the waiter would crack an egg over it & it instantly cooked! Yum.
