Getting the wrong name

Post by Týr »

Or, in my case, quite often no name at all. It's distressing to the person who fumbles. I do it far too often and I have no choice in the matter. I can't recall a time when I was any better at it, I've always fumbled recalling names.

But to my point. I've just been off to Wikipedia to look up Samuel L Jackson. There's a list of films he's appeared in and by crikey they're dire films, few of which I've seen but several of which I've heard of. There's also a startlingly telling sentence... "In 2001, Jackson gave his consent for Marvel Comics to design their 'Ultimate' version of the character Nick Fury after his likeness". How far up one's own bum can a chap get? I don't suppose it's his fault really.

What today's news item does show, though, is that Mr Jackson has one of the finest senses of humor on the planet. This is improvised comedy at its best. He has also ensured the immortality of a totally unknown interviewer called "KTLA reporter Sam Rubin", of whom I guarantee I would never have heard from now until Kingdom Come had it not been for this magical piece of slapstick.

Bravo Samuel L Jackson. Should you ever need anything from me it's yours for the asking.

Getting the wrong name

I must confess, I call people mate, pal, dear, or love.

When referring to my own children I tend to start at the top of a list until I get to the right one.

It is embarrassing and insulting when you cannot recall a name, as if they don't warrent your attention.

But strangely enough when meeting somebody after several years and they remember my name after a brief meeting, it worries me just as much.

I like Jackson, nice find.
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

When I saw the BBC link with just "Jackson" in it I thought well it can't be Michael, maybe it's Jesse boiled over.

I've combed through his entire filmography and TV output and I've seen him in two films, Jurassic Park and the execrable Patriot Games. Nothing else he's ever appeared in seen have I - and that those Star Wars remakes includes.

Samuel Jackson was great in Pulp Fiction, A Time to Kill was very intense and serious subject, and there's a big twist with his character in Deep Blue Sea. But as for remembering names, I have a lot of people come up to me talking like they know me....I have no clue who they are, I just smile and say hi how are you? and go on with the conversation like I know them. :)
