GeoGuessr - Let's explore the world!

Good game.

We were close a couple of times but I struck gold with the last guess, me being a stonemason put me less than 30 miles from the correct location

I did think the church was pretty distinctive. Getting close on that map isn't easy though. I tried for Scotland on one of them and ended up in Northern Ireland.

I was quite a bit off with the first few but just about spot on with the last one.

I ended up playing with this into the wee hours this morning.

The more you play, and the better you do, the tougher the locals become, it seems.

I came close to guessing one of the Scandinavian locations was New Brunswick or Nova Scotia so I figured I was pushing my luck playing another round.

I am becoming addicted to this........it is just a phase I am going through hopefully.

There are a lot of very straight roads in the world I have discovered.......that look much the same.

This challenge starts and finishes in water...... a pond or possibly a river......go for it.

I guessed Poland for the water, seemed a good idea, and wasn't too far out.

The second one was a strange one too, foot prints in snow on a hill overlooking a town.

This is fun.

I think this one is pretty easy, I think. Well the first few.

I was playing one last night, and it learned a bit about reading Cyrillic.

But I bailed out before I could save the URL and post it.

I lost 11509 points to your many many more, got the continent wrong on the first one.

So many long straight dusty roads in the world, so many Spanish/Cyrillic/English countries.

But some of them go so far and theres a dead end, all along dusty side roads with no clue what so ever.

Otherwise the roads go on and on and on forever in a straight line, obviously not the UK or much of Europe.

Much of North America looks like Northern Europe, much of Southern Europe looks like South America.

The Australian outback looks much like African bush, it's only what side of the road they drive can give a clue.

Is looking for signs cheating ?

Well, I found that being able to at least get the phonetics of Cyrillic figured out helps a bit.

And you can copy-paste the characters for a word into google and do a translate of the word, to get a western version of a town or city or a business.

I've started putting a time limit on my guesses, because sometimes I can wasted half an hour or more, and get no closer than I would in the first ten minutes.

Funny you should say that.

I spent 10 minutes trying to get off a Japanese beach, up and down the shore line, noway out, knew it was Japan the speed boats had Yamaha on them(wink)

Next twenty minutes up a brand new road with men painting lines by hand, to a roundabout with four turn offs and NO sign posts and no way past it, back to the beggining to turn around then miles back to another unsigned roundabout, a road under construction with only a rough sign in spanish telling of the workers presence.

Next into an enclosed visitor site in front of a museum or something..................could have been any middle European town from Spain to Russia signs all smudged.......next one the whole scene blacks out except for the directional arrows, nothing I can do will reveal the scene.

Thats about forty minutes of my life I wont get back.

Aha Google translates Cyrillic....................off we go again...........see ya.

I'm getting pretty good at this. But yeah, we are getting to the point that zeroing in as close as possible counts. I was under a km for four out of the five locations.

I didn't even see that little rock in the 4th. Good thing you couldn't get too far off the mark there.

Here's one for y'all.

I did it in about an hour total. (there is no time limit set.)

Only clue I will offer is that knowing the differences in writing characters in Eastern Asian counties makes all the difference for one of them.

OK I give up, my attention span doesn't run to any length of time approaching an hour...............these days.

I am also getting the whole scene blackout in sections with only the directional arrows to be seen, and no way to get back on course.............mind I could be using that as an excuse.

I did start the last challenge but got to the last location and it all went black on me, restarting it seems like a cheat.
