So How Much Is Enough?

Post by jones jones »

There’s a saying that you can never be too rich or too thin. But what about other stuff?

The other day I decided to try to answer this question. So I started in my kitchen. First I opened the pots & pans etc cupboard. Found a really big aluminium saucepan, I mean like one you could cook a missionary or at least a large sheep’s head in. Never ever used it. It still has the Hart sticker on the side, I mean I wouldn’t be comfortable cooking any head, sheep’s or otherwise. As for a missionary … well maybe but I seldom have one around my place.

Found three no, four graduated frying pans. Small, medium, large and heavy bottom large … bit like a fat chick's ass. I have fried an egg in the small variety and cooked fries in the large one, but the medium and heavy bottom are still like cooking virgins. In the same cupboard I have a stainless steel colander, an aluminium colander and two green plastic colanders. I use the stainless steel one for hot stuff and one of the green plastic ones for cold food.

Then I went to the cupboards that are mounted on the wall. There I found no less than seven, what we call Pyrex dishes with covers. Very large, large, medium, small and oblong shaped. The two in the front get used but the others just sit there taking up space and whenever I open the cupboard they jump up and down shouting: “Choose me … me … me!!!”

Moved to the dining area and opened the cupboard where we keep our drinking glasses. Tell me, have you ever had 24 people in your houses drinking beer? No, nor have I … so why are there two dozen beer glasses in the cupboard? Why are there six Martini glasses next to the beer glasses? I’ve never made a Martini in my life.

I could go on and on but I won’t.

We can only drink out of one glass, eat off one plate and use one knife and fork at a time. So why do we carry all this excess baggage around with us?

Well, if you're never gonna use the stuff, haul it off to the charity bazaar, or something. Think of all the space you will have for something else, equally useless.

But then, my grandpa Patrice always said, "Better to have what you don't need than to need what you don't have."

Any day now, you're going to want to have a party, and all that stuff might come in handy.

We don't often use all the glasses and such, but just a couple of weeks ago, A friend brought a keg of his latest brew down for a tasting party. We roasted a hog and had all the neighbors over.

We used up nearly every glass we had, and a bunch of ceramic mugs, plus all the plates and tableware and all that.

It was a lot of fun. The only problem was having to wash all that stuff and put it back, to wait for the next event.

because humans can and will. If it isn't in a large quantity of materials, it will be a whole load of excess emotional baggage.

Humans just love a whole load of stuff. :wah:

Giving unused items away is great! That way somebody can use it and it does not go to waste!!!
