My question was genuine as although I found the article Interesting, there seemed a slight contradiction to me. If offense Is the offendee's fault for making that choice to be offended, then does that excuse the actions of those who offended?

Oscar Namechange;1459090 wrote: Let's move away from the JJ stuff and deal with the link.

So what you Interpret from the link Is that sometimes It's not the sole choice of the person offended as to It being the choice to be offended but the Intention of of the offender to deliberately offend? If that Is true then with deliberate offence, the person offended does not have a choice after all. If one deliberately offends then Is the offended, offended by the deliberate act of causing offence and not what was done ie the act to cause offence?

I get your point completely because tonight we had some peeps round for dinner and their daughter has just married some geezer they haven't taken lightly to. I agree with them, I think he's a knob but anyway.....In point with your post, similar was discussed. The new son In Law has a habit of Pharting out loud In front of everyone and anyone. They find It uncouth. The MIL said tonight she didn't care less If he pharted down the pub with his pals but not at her dinner table while eating. Yet the question remains... does he phart at her dinner table just to annoy her or Is she choosing to be offended. I think we know the answer to that which makes the link contradictive when he says It's the offended's choice to be offended.

IMO if somebody is at the meal table and feels he/she is about to break wind, then he/she should excuse themselves and go out of the room to break wind. This is politeness, after all breaking wind is a natural bodily function and one which we have little control over. If somebody breaks wind whilst at the meal table, then IMO they are plain rude and thoughtless, whilst people are eating. If that person breaks wind deliberately to cause offence, then that person is disgusting and should not be invited again, and it is their problem to sort out if they wish to be invited again. :(

Not quite sure what this has to do with Betty Boop ! :lips:

I can't actually thank you enough for this because I can use It for something else In real life In another arena.

But I have a question... As an example... JJ's vulgarity was offensive to some. So If being offended Is a choice... Is that now his fault they are offended or theirs because they made the choice to be offended ?

Simple, his because he broke the ToS and therefore his contract with the Garden :-

Excellent question IMO.

eta--deserves an excellent answer, I'm not sure I have one at this moment. In this instance only, however, my first thought is that we all know JJ very well; well enough to know he is a big tease but not an outright offender on purpose, IMO & if offended here should have just let it drop & speak to him privately, not to outright ban him.

I may be accused of bias, however, I really like JJ & sometimes we all blow our tops (ahem, I ought to know!)

Firstly, he was not given an outright ban, just a temporary cooling off period - he has been spoken to privately enough times that we know it does no good, secondly, the offence was entirely deliberate and thirdly, he had already made public his decision to leave the board (again) and this, as is his habit, was his way of going out with a bang.

If I'd have waited just a few more hours and read your warning ......... but alas! We also did a bit of uncommonly frequent over-exposure behind closed doors as well. Something to do with the warmth in the air I guess. Particularly after showering. :D

What's your favourite part? I've travelled through Turkey several times on overland journeys through to Bulgaria, Greece, Iran and Syria and have visited just about the whole country except for the Black Sea strip. I love it and the people, both Turk and Kurd. We were in Alanya for the second time. Even in such a tourist centre the people are friendly without being false. I'm generally a mean buggar but Turkey has me dipping into my pockets for a tip in most situations. The only pics I snapped were of my family so they're probably not the best forum material.

No one's asked me but that never stopped me from giving an opinion...

I remember not too long ago when several of us were complaining about JJ's incessant posts littering the front page and pushing everything else out of the way. Granted, there were some good ones but he'd start a thread for each new photo of an old time Hollywood actress he admired rather than continuing in one. We called it spamming and it was exactly that. His self-promotional, over-sexualized and "flirtatious" persona grates on my nerves more times than not and a little goes a long way. I can completely understand why BB tried to ignore this thread, the OP is nausea inducing.

I've learned to stay away from his threads and to avoid him in general but this thread is over the top. I've only been back for a short time and I'm already annoyed with this place again. The pearl clutching and histrionics that poor JJ is being abused when what I see is a person that causes more sh(t on here than Oscar and I combined stirring up more forum drama for his own amusement and ego stroking.

Time for another break, me thinks.

This is a particularly thorny problem because, as I doubt that anyone appreciates conceit in anyone's character, it is doubly distasteful (in this case) knowing that we are his superior in every way imaginable. :)

"Hoping" is a good start.

What you need to do now is to take a few deep breaths and ask yourself what would be required of me to have meant by my post in order for "your reply to be wrong". Once you've accomplished that then you only need to see if it might apply to "what you think you know about me". You know, if the shoe fits me, and all of that. So tell me, using my exact words from that post can you find some way to see me as you would like to? Here's a hint: conceit + superiority. Put them together and what do you get

Who is pushing her out? I like her too. She seems to be pushing herself out. I have an acquaintance on another forum. I like her very much, but she always threatens to leave, disappears for awhile, comes back, threatens again. What's with all the drama & trauma? Leave, stay, why the big production? Why blame one person, in this case JJ, as the reason to leave? I pictured her (Snooze) slamming the door after leaving, so I said that. Sorry you're upset.

For the record, Snooze Is not being pushed out nor slamming any doors on her way out.

She and I talk most days and she Is Is the most UN drama queen I know. She's just been busy with other things. Why does there has to be an underlying reason for her absence? She happens to have a life and a busy one at that.

I miss her here but am fortunate to have her as a friend and still enjoy her humour elsewhere. She'll be back when she's ready and IF she wants to.
