No exciting news In the tabloids so home now bored.

Isn't It funny how you sooooo look forward to a whole day off and then find nothing to do ?

Weather's too hot for Peter to go out so this was the highlight of my day.

Twas a hot sunny morn when battled commenced. The arena was the shady corner of the garden. The large Toad flexed His yellow muscles, puffed up his chest and croaked ' come over ere If yer think you're hard enough'.

Kitten ' Quevega' rose to the challenge mewing ' ha, I've just taken out 2 froggies and a slow worm, so bring It on big boy'.

A vicious battle ensued with the Queensberry rules abandoned. Round One and the Toad went down.

Alright Alright he croaked, I give In. But Kitty was having none of It and pursued him to the long grass. The rescue puppy Intervened and reminded Kitten of her lowly status.

The puppy ran crying to his new Mummy with her scratched. snout. 'Leave this to me Toady' cried She dog, 'I'll sort that Kitten out'.

Stand off followed with She dog standing guard over Mr Toad but after only a couple of minutes, She was bored and decided to go look for discarded treats Instead and follow a passing Bee.

Kitten pounced again and grabbed Toad by the throat, carrying him to her den In the pile of old wood under a tree.

'Right, leave It out' broke the silence when Boy Dog by now has charged to the rescue of Toad.

Snapping at kitten he grabs Toad In his mouth and gently carries him Into the lounge and places him tenderly In the lap of Peter Lake who was snoozing peacefully on the sofa.

WTF he cried waking suddenly and realising Toad by now had passed out set about mouth to mouth Resuscitation.

Toad came round crying ' your house Is full of mental things'.Peter laid Toad gently In a sink full of warm water until fully recovered and has now been sold to the next garden for an undisclosed transfer fee. Kitten remains In the shady corner.... waiting.

I however, am now In the knowledge that my husband has snogged a Toad.

We have a county here named Boring!

Ahhh, life goes one and some times the simplest things can bring a smile to our faces!

BTW I had to look up snogged. Luv learning new words!

lol. I had the same story the other day, but it was a lizard instead of a frog.

I've even had them brought Inside the house.

When they get the Frogs, we can rush to the rescue ourselves because we can hear the WHEEEEEEEEEE squeal they make when grabbed but It looks like Toads don't do that.

There are actually a few lizards native to the U.K (including the Slow Worm), although their numbers are rapidly diminishing & are now a very much endangered species due to the intervention of man destroying their natural habitats.

Most people don't get wildlife In gardens and It's all the fault of Alan Titchmarsh who along with that Charlie Dimmock years ago urged people to pave gardens over.

I did pave over the back and that's my sun spot to eat outside and hang washing.

Another part at the side has a meaning and thought put In to everything.

We planted Pyracantha commonly known as Firethorn due to Inch long thorns on every shoot. They are deliberately allowed to overgrow so House, Wood and Tree Sparrows have protection from the Hawks that sit on the roof waiting for them.

Tree's I remove bottom branches so the cats can't get up them to birds.

Fallen branches and logs regually get stolen on our walks and abandoned In piles In the garden to create a habitat for Insects to breed.

Stinging nettles, we let grow out there with Buddleia for Butterfly's to lay eggs on.

We let grass grow there for the Slow Worms.

So we have created this environment In this little corner for all to thrive but then I'm afraid the Inhabitants get harassed by the new Kitten.

With the Insects brings the Togs and Froads as Peter calls them, the Slow Worms, hedgehogs and Foxes.

Think of it this way - if you can't be bothered to do the gardening you can let it go wild & claim you're doing your bit for the environment.

Last time that happened to me I was walking through a cemetery - the bats always gathered there :p

I have no Idea where my bats are roosting. There Is a church very close so could be there. I'm sure mine are the Common Pipistrelle but can't be sure.

Nowhere as near as bad as the shock this roofer got In Florida recently

Not that odd if you think about it. Churchyards often tend to be overgrown & a haven for all kinds of wildlife, meaning that food is likely to be plentiful there.
