8 year old tasered by police?

Post by Bruv »

Police warned an 8-year-old girl before they tased her, and now her mother has filed a lawsuit, claiming police fired darts from the electroshock weapon into the girl's chest "within seconds,"

An 8 year old.......... a big hairy arsed police officer with a gun on his hip......couldn't stop a 70lb 8 year old girl without firing electrified barbs into her flesh.

Luckily he didn't have a shotgun handy.

8 year old tasered by police?

How intimidating and threatening can an 8 year old child be ? One of the officers was a trained hostage negotiator so surely had the skills to talk her round from any dangerous situation. Im astonished that between 4 officers they took the sort of action that would have been appropriate only for a violent, fully grown, out of control adult

Well, they DID prevent her from hurting herself.

Mission accomplished.

They could have ensured future prevention, by shooting her dead then and there ?

It looks like a Catch 22 situation. Damned whatever they do.

I don't really know where I stand on this. The item only reported on what the Plaintiff was saying. Nothing about the actual circumstances involved as seen from the other point of view.

I can't really believe that it was simply a case of an 8 year old girl having a tantrum. If that was the case, and no-one was in danger then the chances are that they would have sat down & waited for her to calm down. There has to have been more to it than that.

Then please submit a scenario of your own where "Four trained police officers surrounding a 70-pound, 8-year-old Indian girl" shouldn't with all their combined years of experience deal with her in a more suitable manner.

Without knowing the facts, such a scenario, one way or the other would be pure imagination. I'm just saying that I can't help feeling that there has to be more going on here than meets the eye.

Use your vivid imagination for the very worst eventuality.............when you have done that......give another scenario where the Firebrigade have to use a shotgun to get the kitten down from the tree.

That's easy - the kitten was believed to have had rabies.

And no one has seen fit to inform the public whether the child was "holding" or “wielding?

I don't know, but my guess is that in the time it takes to pull out your taser, arm it (or remove the safety) you could have thrown the child a sucker-punch and saved the cost of electricity. :wah:

But seriously, an 8 year-old can't be all that dexterous, while the police must have had a good deal of self-defence training. Not one of the police could get hold of her arm and subdue her? It must have been the geriatric wing of the retired, police reserves what was called out that day.

I imagine the officers are trained either to kill or to disable, where possible, with a tazer. Given the choice, which would you prefer he had done?

I guarantee that without any police training whatsoever, I could take a knife from an 8 year old girl, however angry she was, without the use of a weapon. That four trained officers (one trained in hostage situations ) couldnt, is a travesty. I would have no confidence in a police force that handled this so badly

A raised voice ?

If you have to ask........I would suggest you don't have many dealings with 70lb 8 year olds.

Assuming this 70lb (5 Stone) 8 year old was foaming at the mouth, and aggressively abusing the Officers of the Law, perhaps questioning their legitimacy, one would hope at least one of them had the gumption to perhaps smother her flailing arms or even...... slap the child................... before tasering her.

Worse case scenario she was swinging a razor sharp samurai sword........I would hope they could let her continue slashing thin air until fatigue set in after maybe.......ten minutes.

Fair enough then. I mean, who can honestly say they haven't relished tasing a child or a kitten at one time in their life. I know that I have.

So, some old lady runs a red light and when the cop pulls her over he discovers she's got a Bosch 45 Magnum cordless hair-dryer lying next to her on the seat, so he now has no other choice to make other than to kill or disable her. Let me answer your question: I would prefer he shoot himself. Taser or pistol .... it's a toss-up option for me.

Let's take a stroll through Forum Garden's archives to see how many would disagree and say that the American police force instill confidence in its population.
