Jaffa Cakes

Post by spot »

I take my title from LarsMac: "For a round-trip airfare and a few packages of Jaffa Cakes, (McVitie's, of course) I'd be happy to come over and clear you plot for you."

Some years have passed since a ForumGarden meet. I hereby float the notion that we might try for another. I have no particular venue in mind, nor time, nor duration, though I may put in a suggestion or two before the thread's over.

The first was hosted by Raven and took place over several days in London. We had people from the USA and Canada as well as a smattering of Brits, the most we had out in one place during the meet was sixteen in a pub at High Holborn just along from the Prudential Insurance building.

There was the Birmingham meet, that being considered more central - we had a Canadian there too and at least, as I recall it, ten attendees. A second similar-sized London meet had a member flying into Gatwick from Ireland. We've twice attempted meets at folk festivals with mixed results - great fun but very few attendees. There has been at least one US meet of which I'm aware. All of this discounts the to and fro of members jaunting about to extend their social networks and cement online friendships of which there's been a startling amount over the years.

To what extent might a ForumGarden Jaffa Cake Meet gain participants?

I will be in New York from the 11th to the 14th September, I predict at least a mini meet.

I had thought I might get myself sent on a trip to New York next week, and perhaps have a chance for us to meet up for a cuppa. But now, I find that I will be going to Toronto, instead.

Toronto's very near New York. Google Earth says so.

It is about the same driving time as Portsmouth to Edinburgh.

I would have liked that, and a bagel?

Never mind.

It depends how much you zoom it though.

I thought that was the reply to "My Harley's fast".

Lars... If you have a collection point, I am quite happy to post some Jaffa cakes off to you.

I posted some of Scotland's finest all butter shortbread to another ex FG member In America this morning as she's recovering from Chemo.

I've had five me-toos so far, it's enough for a day out but it's not quite a meet yet. Would anyone else like to go on the possibles list?

I obviously have work commitments but would certainly consider a meet up of some kind, depending on location and my availability
