Falling out of bed

Post by Oscar Namechange »

Have you ever fallen out of your bed?

This morning, with my husband leaving for London at 5 am, I had the luxury of the bed all to myself.

I managed to fall out of the bed, landing In a heap on a surprised 16 year old Boy Dog lying by my side, on the floor next to the bed. The bed stands approx 3 feet high, rather like getting up on a stage every night, and I appeared to have awoken half way down. Realising I was about to land on Boy Dog, I tried to brace my fall and In the process bent my fingers back on one hand, now giving me severe discomfort and bruising Is beginning to appear on my swollen fingers.

What Is the most annoying part of this, Is that my bed Is a Super Queen size, 7ft by 7ft. It was actually a display model In a furnature store that we bought some years ago. Although, you can not buy duvets and bedding for love nor money In this country and I have to order from America and China on E Bay who do two types of colour. Purple and Purple, giving the bedroom a feeling of a gin palace.

I remember often falling out of bed as a child but that was a single bed.

How the heck do you fall out of a bed 7ft by 7ft ? I was having a lovely dream as well.

You can because it's possible to do so. Maybe your dream was causing movement in your body. I have fallen out of bed a few times, I think most folks have. The last time was months ago, I fell in a twisted position & landed on my exercise bike (not on the seat, that would have been hilarious, but on the metal stand). It hurt for days!

Ouch !!!!

Another thing that occurred to me given the size of the bed, I must have been right on the edge In order to fall off. So I've got a 7ft by 7ft bed and I end up right on the edge ?? I don't get that.

Although thinking about It, It's entirely possible. Only a few nights ago after going to bed long after Peter, I found that I'd be allocated 2 Inches In the corner. The rest was taken up by Peter, dogs and cats. When I complained about them all on the bed, which I really don't like, pets on the bed, I was told they looked so peaceful that he didn't want to disturb them. Then to add further Insult, Boy Dog growls at me for trying to get In my own bed.

As I always sleep on my side, I have a tendency to turn over in my sleep (otherwise you get vary painful cramp). Usually it's on my back, rolling alternately Clockwise & Anti-Clockwise. However, for some reason, I occasionally roll on my front. These means that unless I counter these rolls they can accumulate, thus inching me further & further towards the edge.

As a result, many's the time I've fallen out of bed as well (Super King Size), but most of the time I don't even notice until the next day when I wake up on the floor.

That'll be the alcohol :sneaky::wah:

I always sleep In that position, the one on your front. with a leg up to your waist.

Not advisable when staying In hospital where your sheet may ride over thus exposing your chocolate starfish.

That's the main thing I hate about being in hospital - Having that drip in the back of your hand (an evil enough place to put it at the best of times). It means that there's no way you can get a comfortable sleeping position other than on your back (which always makes me snore, whether I'm asleep or not, which then wakes me up).

Plus hospital beds are so damned uncomfortable. I had to go for a Sleep Apnoea test, where my hand was wired & trying to sleep on a lumpy, squeaky, rock hard bed, which rocked at the slightest movement. Needless to say, I didn't get a wink of sleep all night, which made the whole test a bit pointless.

Normally when I sleep I'm absolutely comatose - always have been. There was even a time, back in Infant School where they had to send for my Mother when they couldn't wake me after 'Nap Time'. Coincidentally the exact same thing happened to my Kid Brother when he reached the same age.

Having spent much time In hospital, I go prepared.

Wax ear plugs from Boots keep out the snoring. An Aircraft eye mask to stop some jolly tea lady waking you at stupid o'clock when she turns the lights on.

I know exactly what you mean about the Cannula. Doesn't matter how you lie, you'll catch It on the bedding. Had one once In Worthing hospital, In the night, the needle came out the vein meaning the fluid was going Into my hand.

That was the time I had so many drips In every vein that the last one had to go In my neck... try sleeping like that !!!

That was one of my worst hospital stays ever. Halfway through, a new patient was moved Into the bed next to me. Clinically obese, not that I had an Issue with her weight but she snored like a Hippo In labour all night. She not only kept me awake but the whole ward. They were all complaining and nothing was done. I'd think I could catch up on sleep during the day but no, she denied us of that also by her chav family visiting every day, shouting and yelling for hours.

In the end, drivenm to distraction one night, with her lying on her back with mouth wide open, I threw a cup at her. Only one of those plastic ones. I aimed for her mouth but missed and hit her on the head. The nurses moved her after that to a side room but we could still hear her.

I fell out of the top bed of a set of bunk beds a few times......when I was a kid. Then, we moved to a new house with a bigger bedroom and the bunk bed was no longer needed. Probably saved my life.

;) My Mother would never allow us to have bunk beds for that reason. My brother and I used to beg for them ever since as small children we stayed at a Butlins In Wales and were delighted to find our chalet had bunk beds. My Mother couldn't cope with all the larking about we carried out at night. They were a novelty to us and thought they were wonderful.

Aaah! I hope your hand is feeling better by now!

I had to laugh though..I'm staying at my brothers place in ireland at the moment, sleeping on a small flip out bed.. Looks like one of those things they have in the army.

It is pushed against a desk.. I had one leg out on the floor on the left and the other on the right.. As i felt cold i turned to the side and heard an almighty SMACK! Then i felt the pain! I hit my head on the leg of the desk.. O my did it hurt but it made me laugh!

When we were kids, we had bunk beds for my brother and me. I learned how to very slowly, push up the side of my brother's mattress, so to build a bit of a slope, and eventually, he would simply roll out, and on to the floor.

We had a heavy carpet, so he never broke anything. it took him a couple of years to figure that out.

The technique came in handy again while in the military, in Boot Camp, when the guy above me proved to be a rather unfriendly sort who liked to cause me as much trouble as possible. He once fell out of his bunk, breaking his collarbone, and was sent back to a recovery battalion.

Falling out of bed

I fell the other night just trying to get into bed. I went to sit on the edge of the bed and misjudged. I then slid down the side of the bed catching my tailbone on the bed frame and ended up in a very awkward position wedged up against the side of the bed. My tailbone still hurts.
