Oh the excitement...
What Royal will we get ? Twas a wonderous sight, the look of BAH on the Queen's face when her horse Barbers Shop was beaten Into 6th place In the 2009 Gold Cup.
Will we see another ' Wishful Thinking' moment? The moment horse and rider crashed through the rails at 40 mph and took out a French Photographer. ( Horse was OK )
And how many of those pesky Irish raiders will come across the Irish sea and nick our prizes? Oh the rivalry !!!! You can feel It In the air.
These will come from Ireland to defend their crowns Including The wonder mare I named my cat after...

It's that time of year again
OK, 6 weeks to go. Let's get serious.
Although The Gold Cup Is the highlight of the 4 day festival, the buzz this year Is all about the Champion Hurdle.
I'm sure over the 6 weeks until the final declarations, there will be some movement here and possible withdrawals with trainers favouring more achievable races but I can say, I've never seen such a spectacular line up this year for this race. Right now, I couldn't even begin to call It although my brother says It'll be The New One and that's pretty much good enough for me.
I am just so excited about seeing these superstar big guns In the parade ring.
1. My Tent Or Yours +36
2. The New One +27
3. Hurricane Fly +25
4. Rock On Ruby +24
5. Annie Power +18
6. Our Conor +8
What I will say, Is that I don't believe My Tent Or Yours can score here. He doesn't like that hill on the run In and In the past that hill has cost him the race. I've said this before about this horse but In the past, coming off the bridle when the final push is needed, he doesn't give enough. With this line up, this race will be close, very close and he'll need to respond better when asked this time. For me, I believe his best chance Is for AP McCoy to get him out front from the start and get a clear advantage. On the run In, If he's far enough ahead, he may just hang on In there, but I doubt It. The New One has proven that the Cheltenham Hill can be swatted aside In his stride, even gain on the hill and he will respond far better when Sam Twiston-Davis asks him for more.
Hurricane Fly will be looking to defend the crown and score his 20th Grade 1 win.
Annie Power Is an unstoppable mare who remains unbeaten. Jumping Is sheer perfection with a devastating cruising speed. She's the new kid on the block and I believe the biggest threat to them all.
Our Conor Is another machine that swats away the Cheltenham Hill, winning last year by an unprecedented 15 lengths.

Sprinter Sacre will miss Cheltenham and has been withdrawn from defending his title In The Queen Mother Champion Chase after his heart scare.
A massive shame... I was so looking forward to seeing him. However, this does further endorse my hope that we will see Sire De Grugy take the title.
As for The Champion Hurdle... Freebets.com are offering a refund on any bet should The Fly Hurricane Fly come 1st or even 2nd...
Must be mad.

It's that time of year again
Although It's time to start thinking about putting my money where my mouth Is, there will be possible amendments as and when trainers jostle their horses to different races before the festival begins on 11 th March.
27 races over 4 days... Let's start with day one In order of the races.
The Supreme Novices Hurdle
This Is one race that can catch many a punter out. It Invariably tends to be extremely fast paced and cruising speed of the horses plays a major part. Because of that, the ground conditions are paramount. If the ground Is good to soft, It's better to look for horses with a flat record. Statistically, Irish horses do better here, In the past, winners have been lightly raced but have experience of large fields. Very often, winners here have previously won at the Festival or have been placed In the Champion Bumper. Favourites do not fare well In this race so It's one of the hardest to call.
I however will stick my neck out and tip Irving as a win bet. Mountain King for an each way punt.
The Arkle
Again, an extremely fast paced race where horses need speed as well as perfect jumping. Statistically, horses who have done well throughout the season do better here. Also statistically, favourites have fared well In this race, It's very Interesting to look at previous winners for those that have won this race have gone on to become some of our highest rated champions. Such names as Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig, Captain Chris and Tidal Bay.
For me, there Is no question here and I'll be punting a win bet on Willie Mullins Champagne Fever with an each way bet on Paul Nichol's Dodging Bullets
The Festival Handicap Chase
Low end priced horses have fared well here previously. Statistically, out of the last 11 winners, 8 have won under 10/1. Horses who can stay the distance are the one's to look for here. Now, having said that, I am sticking my neck right out here and am tipping Taquin Du Seuil at 16/1 for an each way bet.
The Champion Hurdle Ordinarily, the highlight of the festival Is the Gold Cup but this year, all the talk Is about this race where legends will meet legends. This Is going to be close, very close. Hurricane Fly Is looking for his 20th Grade 1 win, and his 3rd win In this race but the competition Is fierce. To me, It's a 4 horse race between The Fly, Our Conor, The New One and My Tent Or Yours. However, should connections decide to challenge this race rather than favour the World Hurdle or The David Nicholson, the biggest threat to all four Is Annie Power. She Is a machine of a mare who remains unbeaten. Jumping Is perfection and devastating cruising speed. She's not challenged this group before so the big question Is,... Is she out of her league ? Then there's Jezki.
Sentiment wants me to see Hurricane Fly do this but The New One Is the one that I believe may just have the edge. So a win bet for me and an each way punt on Annie Power
The David Nicholson Mares Hurdle
This race has been won by the one dubbed ' The wonder mare' Quevega for the past 5 years. Last year she equaled Golden Miller's record of 5 consecutive Festival wins and this year, she's still the one to beat. Annie Power Is also listed for this race and we'll know nearer the day which her connections will target. With Quevega at such short odds, my best bet here would be an each way punt on Sirene DAinay but, gut feeling Is Quevega will take It.
The National Hunt Steeple Chase
This Is also a difficult race to call. It's for novices over 5 years old, Statistically, horses 7 years old have not fared well In this race as they lack the stamina and experience to stay the distance. The only exception to that was, Tricky Trickster but It's better to look for the older horses here. Jonjo O'Neil has a good record with this race winning 4 since 2000. For those reasons, I am again sticking my neck right out and looking at an each pay punt at 16/1 on Shutthefrontdoor
The Centenary Novice Chase.
Interesting that the last favourite to win this race was In 2006 although the top end of the betting has fared better here over the years, This Is one race, I am undecided on and will leave until nearer the day.

It's that time of year again
Finally, all the anticipation and waiting over a decision on Annie Power Is over. The gods have spoken. In that case, the gods being champion trainer Willie Mullins.
With the festival being so prestigious, trainers will multi-entry their big guns In the big races and keep us punters In the dark as to which they'll target right up to a week before the start of the festival. They wait to see If the main threat to their horse gets Injured In training and withdrawn or even that the rivals trainer will switch before making the last decision.
So I am not alone In saying, everything hung on Annie Power and where she'll head and who she'll take on. Would she challenge Quevega In the Mares Hurdle, Hurricane Fly In the Champion Hurdle or Big Bucks In the World Hurdle?
So what makes her so special ? Just 6 years old, 10 starts and 10 wins remaining unbeaten.
It was announced last night that Annie Power will challenge Big Bucks In The World Hurdle on day 3... It's going to be a show case.

It's that time of year again
Day Two 12th March
The Neptune Investment Novices Hurdle
Statistically, out of the past 11 years, 8 at the top of the market have been In the top 4. It's better to look for a horse here with a win last time out. It's a highly competitive race and there are 4 here for me that are capable of taking this title. Red Sherlock, Faugheen, Briar Hill and Royal Boy
However for me, I will be going with an each way bet on Un Temps Pour Tout at 16/1 who also won last time out.
The RSA Chase
It was 2009 since the last favourite won this race. For me, It's an each way bet on Smad Place
The Coral Cup
This Is another race that catches punters out due to large amounts of entrants. 2010 saw a field of 28 runners and statistically, big price winners have fared well here.
Anyone reading my warning thread would have seen that I eagerly awaited the return from Injury since 2011 of my choice here. I was ecstatic that he won two weeks ago after such a long time away from racing. After that win, I did take 20/1 for him on this race and since then. he's been slashed to 12/1.
Dunguib each way
The Queen Mother Champion Chase
Betting has been all over the place since news that Sprinter Sacre will not be defending his crown after his heart scare. This leaves the race wide open but for me, this race will see one of my biggest bets In money terms and there Is no question... I'm on Sire De Grugy all the way for a straight win.
The Cross Country Chase
Out of the past 9 years, 7 winners have been the top end of the market. I'm In no doubt that the favourite Big Shu will be In the first 3 but for me, It's the horse that has won this race 2 years ago. It's just a fact that this boy loves Cheltenham and can swat away that hill on the run In. A warrior of a horse who runs his heart out every time. So for me, a win on Balthazar King
The Fred Winter
Statistically, horses who won last time out fare better here... An each way bet for me on Goodwood Mirage
The Champion Bumper
Statistically, horses trained by Willie Mullin's are the one's to look for here... so for me, a win bet on Shaneshill

It's that time of year again
News In... My Tent Or Yours given the all clear for The Champion Hurdle
Day Three, 13th March
The JLT Novices Chase
Statistically, Paul Nichol's horses are the one's to look for here... I think his Wonderful Charm will be a threat but I'm sticking with the more more experienced Taquin Du Seuil with Oscar Whiskey to come 2nd In a place bet.
The Pertemps
This race statistically has seen big priced winners with an average price of 20/1 showing the difficulty In calling this race, You have to go back to 2003 to find the last single priced winner. For me an each way bet on Champagne West with a r/v f/c with Fingal Bay
The Ryanair Chase
Since 2005, 7 out of 8 have come In the top of the market. With only one favourite and 7 being second favourite, It's best to look for a horse at the top of the betting. Dynaste heads the betting here...but this Is the horse who cost me my accumulator last year to that pesky Irish raider Benefficient who challenges him here again this year. For me, Dynaste didn't fire enough In the King George, so as much as I like this horse, my bet lies with Al Ferof to win.
The World Hurdle
So much discussed about this race. Big Bucks will be hoping for a 5th win In this race but Is he fully over that Injury? Sentiment wants me to see the boy do It. Is Annie Power out of her league here? It's a tough one to call so I'm going for a r/v f/c of the two with an each way bet on the horse I believe has beeen overlooked with all the talk about this race, Zarkander
The Byrne Group Plate
Sadly we won't have the entertainment of Mad Moose this year but this another race where favourites do not fare well with the exception of Salut Flo In 2012. RIP Salut Flo...You have to go back to 1951 to find the last Irish trained winner here. There Is still a possibility here that Hunt Ball connections may target this race Instead of The Grand National or The Topham... for that reason, I'll wait until the day before.
The Kim Muir
You have to go back 28 years to find the last Irish trained winner here. This race Is for stayers. I'm having two each way bets here....Wyck Hill and Holywell
Day Three, 13th March

It's that time of year again
Day Four 14th March
The JCB Triumph Hurdle
You have to go back to 2006 to find the last winning favourite here with Detroit City.
Statistically, 3 jockeys have won this race each 7 times. Barry Geraghty, Robert Thornton and Richard Johnson. The only double priced winner since 2004 was Countrywide Flame at 33/1. Paul Nichol's Is the trainer to look for In this race but I'll be placing two bets here. Nichol's Calipto to win and an each way bet on Guitar Pete
The County Handicap Hurdle
Another race that has stistically seen some big priced winners. Willie Mullin's horses are the one's to look for here having had 2 of the last 4 winners. Again I am having two bets here. David Pipe's Dell'Arca and Cheltenian each way
The Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle
Since 2005, 3 favourites have won this race although Berties Dream came home at 33/1 In 2010. A straight win here for me on David Pipe's Kings Palace
The Foxhunter Chase
Out of the last 10 winners, 6 have been 14/1 or higher. For me a win bet on Mossey Joe
The Conditional Jockey's Hurdle
I am waiting on final declarations here before deciding..
The Grand Annual Chase
Only 2 favourites have won this since 2004. Horse under the age of 10 fare better here also. For me, Ted Veale

It's that time of year again
The Highlight of the festival, day 4, The Gold Cup
Now this Is difficult, very difficult.
Reigning Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth beat Sir Des Champ In The Lexus but Siviniaco Conti beat Bobs Worth In the Betfair. Yet First Luitenant has beaten Silviniaco Conti. Then what about Last Instalment and that blistering win last time out. You have Knockara Beau who beat Big Bucks last time out at 66/1 and Harry Topper again winning last time out.
I think this year, It will be down to fitness and ground conditions.
Nicky Henderson has stated that the biggest threat to his Bobs Worth Is Silviniaco Conti.
But for me there's one horse that I believe has been overlooked here. Hennessy Gold Cup winner Triolo D'Arlene could upset the lot of them at 14/1
Sentiment wants me to see my little Christmas Cracker, that little brown jobbie Silviniaco Conti win The Gold Cup and I believe If he's fit and he's certainly In his prime, he could just make a late challenge to Bobs Worth and take It as I believe he's the strongest stayer for that hill and the distance. So a win bet for me. But I will be hedging my bets and looking for a place on Triolo D'Arlene and Harry Topper
I will update my four day selections the night before
I'm doubting I'll beat my last years naps of 11 winners and 5 places as this year we expect the ground conditions to be soft causing some major upsets to the favourites. This year I've gone more for outsiders that I hope will see a place payout.
One final prediction... I predict Willie Mullin's to be crowned Champion Trainer and Ruby Walsh as champion jockey.

A long day tinged with so much sadness.
There Is a breed of people who believe that horse racing Is all about trying to win money, It's not. In this country, we admire equine athletes and we go along hoping to see something totally outstanding between horse and rider. Cheltenham Is the final battleground after legends and champions have spent the season battling to win a place In the most prestigious festival of the year. Then legends and champions come together to compete against legends and champions. There are no old nags at The Festival, every horse has earned his ticket, not that It matters, every horse who gets hurt In accidents hurts us.
I did predict with ground conditions there would be some major upsets this year and I at least got that right. The day did not start well Bloody trainers making last day declarations. Mountain King a non runner but Irving did not fire and ran a shocker. I heard rumours after that something was not right with the boy.
Race 2, The Arkle and my Champagne Fever Is In a photograph finish with the 33/1 outsider. He loses by a nose to Western Warhorse, a pesky little monkey who In the past has held up many a race with his antics. Dodging Bullets 4th.
Race 3 and I find Holywell was a late declaration having been withdrawn from The Kim Muir and I managed to switch bets In time. Holywell, wins at 10/1
Race 4, The Champion Hurdle.
So much discussed about this race. Hurricane Fly, My Tent Or Yours, The New One and Our Conor were considered a 4 horse race. Ironically, the last status update I wrote on Facebook was " Don't overlook Jezki or Zarkander". Half way through the race, Our Conor fell and badly hampered The New One In fact It was a miracle The New One wasn't brought down but as he dropped back to last, Our Conor who had just been sold to new connections for one million and the Cheltenham Champion of The Triumph Hurdle last year winning by an unprecedented 15 lengths, lay on the ground. Vets got to him very quickly but It was agonising seeing him unable to get up. The race carried on and was won by Jezki beating My Tent Or Yours and Hurricane Fly. The next race was being delayed and I think everyone knew It was not going to be the news we wanted. Finally It was announced that they believe It better they euthanised the boy on the track after believing his back was broken. This was such a shock because this was a hurdle race not a steeple chase. Fatalities are not common In hurdles but this was a freak accident. One of the saddest sights to be seen. A young champion so full of promise and such a beautiful boy. A very sad day for racing.
What was astonishing was the feat of jockey Sam-Twiston Davis who now trailing last managed to get The New One recovered and cross the line third.
What followed such sadness was euphoria. The wonder mare I named my cat after was looking to re-write history. Quevega became the firat horse and the first mare In history to win 6 years In a row beating Golden Miller's record. As she crossed the line, the roof came off and I can't recall how she actually did It. She wasn't even In the running by the last hurdle... a truely remarkable, stunning feat.
More non runners to follow that...
On the day, marginally In profit thanks to Holywell and Quevega.
Need to update day two now to avoid more non runners.

Race One...Un Temps Pour Tout withdrawn.... bet switched to Red Sherlock each way
Race two.... sticking with Smad Place each way
Race Three...Sticking with Dunguib each way
Race Four....Sticking with Sire De Grugy straight win
Race five...Sticking with Balthazar King straight win
Race six....Sticking with Goodwood Mirage each way
Race Seven... Sticking with Shaneshill to win

Another long tiring day.
Race One, The Neptune... I did say here that Faugheen was capable of taking this title and he does so. My Red Sherlock was unplaced.
Race Two, The RSA Chase.... For me, It was DéjÃ* vu from yesterday and Champagne Fever's race even down to the colour of the horse, grey. My Smad Place Is In a photograph finish and gets beaten Into 2nd by a nose.... Yet a place pay out on 11/2
Race Three, The Coral Cup was won by Whisper a 14/1 outsider... my Dunguib failed to Impress and was unplaced.
Race Four... The Big Event of the day, The Queen Mother Champion Chase and there to present the prizes was Camilla... Now I'm getting a little nervous... ground conditions have caught a few favourites out by now and seen some upsets. This was the one race that I had absolutely no doubts over until outsiders were upsetting all predictions. This race saw my biggest bet of the four day festival In money terms, Phew.... the horse I had so much faith and belief In comes home at 11/4 by 6 lengths In an Imacuately timed and paced blaze of glory and the roof came off again as Sire De Grugy crossed the line clear.
Race Five... The Cross Country This race often gets overlooked for the feat of endurance for horse and rider that It Is... This Is gruelling...just under four miles, a little short of the Grand National distance but an Incredible 32 obstacles for the horses. For all the perfection of Sire De Grugy today, for me, the most Impressive horse by far on the day was the winner of this race.... As I said about him... a warrior of a horse who runs his heart out every time and today he certainly gave his all. My Balthazar King wins at 4/1. As I said, Big Shu was In the first three coming 3rd.
Race Six...The Fred Winter...Hawkhigh another rank outsider upsets the predictions and wins at 33/1... My Goodwood Mirage unplaced.
Race Seven, The Bumper... My Shaneshill beaten Into 2nd place.
On the day, sizably In profit thanks to Smad Place, Sire De Grugy and Balthazar King

Day Three and some amendments here for tomorrow due to late declarations again.
The JLT Novices.... I'm sticking with an each way bet on Taquin Du Seuil and a reversed forecast of Taquin Du Seuil and Oscar Whiskey
The Pertemps... Champagne West withdrawn so switch to an each way bet on Fingal Bay
The Ryanair.... A late declaration from Equine Atlantic see's Hunty Hunt Ball targeted for this race rather than the Byrne Group Plate. I'm sticking with Al Ferof here for a win but also an each way bet on our Hunty, Hunt Ball
The World Hurdle.... This Is the big race and highlight of the day. Another race where so much has been discussed. Sentiment wants me to see the boy Big Bucks pull off a 5th win In this race after being out for a year due to Injury. But all the talk Is about the new kid on the block Annie Power I'm sticking with a reversed forecast of the two but I am also sticking with a decent each way bet on the overlooked Zarkander
The Byrne Group Plate... with Hunt Ball targeting the Rynair, I will now be on Colour Squadron each way
The Kim Muir.... With Holywell switched yesterday and winning for me, and Wyck Hall being withdrawn, I now look to Our Father each way
Day Three, 13th March

Another long tiring Day three which I'm afraid saw me make a spectacle of myself and cry.... along with thousands of others... more of that In a minute.
The day Started well.
The JLT Novices Chase and Taquin Du Seuil wins for me at 7/1... Oscar Whiskey fell at the first fence
The Pertemps...Deja Vu again !!!! And my horse Is In the closest photograph finish. We were all expecting a dead heat to be called, It was that close but my horse Fingal Bay wins by a nostril hair at 9/2 An astonishing feat under top weight.
The Ryanair....Now, anyone reading my racing threads over the years, would know that Dynaste Is a horse I have raved about In the past and I adore him. Some horses just have a presence and he Is one of those. He was beaten at the festival last year by that pesky Irish raider Benneficant and he put In a lack lustre performance In the King George In December. This was a high class field and for those reasons, as much as I adore him, I didn't have the faith this time. Despite my horse Al Ferof being outclassed here and losing money, I was absolutely thrilled to see Dynaste win this race In tremendous style and back In the winners enclosure where he belongs. Also fantastic to see our Hunty, Hunt Ball come up the Cheltenham hill again after returning from the USA and being placed 4th.
The World Hurdle... The big race and highlight of the day. There was talk that an extra 30,000 people attended today to see Annie Power and Big Bucks. This boy Big Bucks Is a horse I have travelled the length and bredth of the country to see for some years now. A lion of an equine athlete. The last time I saw a horse applauded as he entered the the parade ring prior to a race, was Kauto Star. The applause for Big Bucks was deafening as he entered the parade ring. Sadly after now 11 years old and being out of action for a year due to Injury, It was all too much for him although he ran on gamely. The World Hurdle went to the Irish raider More Of That beating the favourite Annie Power Although he didn't earn a place for the winners enclosure, we knew something was up when Big Bucks was returned to the parade ring following the race and It was here the announcement came that he had been retired the moment he crossed the line. He paraded for us one more time and there wasn't a dry eye anywhere. He left to the noise of thunderous applause. Happy retirement my beautiful big boy. You deserve every second.
The Byrne Group Plate... and my Colour Squadron gets beaten Into 2nd by another pesky 12/1 outsider, yet a place pay out for me at 5/1
The Kim Muir... My Our Father unplaced coming In 9th Another 12/1 outsider Spring Heeled wins.
In profit on the day thanks to Taquin Du Seuil, Fingal Bay and Colour Squadron
The JLT Novices.... I'm sticking with an each way bet on Taquin Du Seuil and a reversed forecast of Taquin Du Seuil and Oscar Whiskey

The JCB Triumph Hurdle...I'm sticking with Calipto but changing to an each way bet with another each way bet on Guitar Pete
The County Handicap Hurdle... Dell'Arca a non runner... an each way bet on Cheltenian and an each way bet on Flaxen Flare
The Albert Bartlett...An amendment to this race after Champagne West Is a late declaration. Each way here. Another each way bet on Briar Hill along with my original selection Kings Palace
The Foxhunter... Mossey Joe a non runner... switch to Berties Dream and Certain Flight each way both
The Martin Pipe Conditional Jockey Hurdle.. This Is a race I don't like and usually bypass, but I've a good feeling for the experienced Une Artiste each way
The Grand Annual Chase...Ted Velae a non runner...French Opera and Eastlake both each way
The Gold Cup
Silviniaco Conti to win
Triolo D'Arlene each way
Combi tricast.... Silviniaco Conti, Bobs Worth. Triolo D'Arlene

OMG What a day !!!
Jockey's stretchered to hospital, a horse spooking and careering Into a public enclosure smashing a TV camera In the process, for the first time In history, a lengthy Stewards Inquiry Into the Gold Cup Result following two false starts to the race. Thankfully, I don't frequent the ' Best Mate' enclosure where the common folk hang out and avoided the horse careering Into the public area. Jockey Brian Cooper undergoing secondry surgery In Frenchay hospital as we speak. Rank outsiders beating the favourites.... Champion Jockey Ruby Walsh mocked by the crowd as he Is stretchered away with a broken arm. It all happened today.
Race One and I get a place payout on Guitar Pete at 7/1
Race Two and Cheltinian 5th with Flaxen Flare 4th
Race Three...The Favourite Briar Hill falls with the outsider Very Wood winning at 33/1 Champagne West 4th so a place pay out at 14/1
Race Five...and none of mine placed. The 12/1 outsider wins
Race Six and none of mine are placed. The 16/1 outsider wins.
The Gold Cup result.
1st Lord Windermere 20/1
2nd On His Own 16/1
3rd The Giant Bolster 14/1
4th Silviniaco Conti 11/4
The Gold Cup saw a photograph finish and a lengthy Stewards Inquiry. My heartiest congratulations to trainer Jim Culloty who was the jockey of Best Mate.
Overall,, a very difficult four days to predict leaving even professional tipsters floundering. Soft ground upset many a favourite and added to that the large entries of up to 30 runners per race with an extremely high claibre of entrants. I am In profit on the four days and not ashamed at all given all the circumstances of the four day festival..

You forgot one!!!! "How the hell did he do that ! " Award should go to Lord Windermere in the Gold Cup. 22 fences and LW was last all the way round until just after the 4th out when he started to pick his way through the remainder of the field of 14 starters to come in 1st. by about a nose !
What drama too, as there was a stewards enquiry and they had to wait about 20 minutes for the stewards to let the result stand. Actually the stewards said, apparently, that even though there was an obvious interference by Lord Wndermere on On His Own the result should still stand. I'm afraid I can't understand them- they admit there was interference (and looking at the video I reckon On His Own could well have won if there had not been the obstruction by LW), and yet they allow the result to stand even when I suspect they may have felt the interference jeopardised On His Own finishing first, even though they say it didn't !

Yes, It's a funny old world... With any Stewards Inquiry, one thing they look for Is Intent. They get the jockeys In and listen to their accounts which is why it takes so long. You will get natural veering In any race but what they have to decide Is weather the jockey has ridden recklessly. That's often what the decision Is based on. If that was the case, the announcement would have been made ' Objection by the 2nd to the 1st' and an objection Is very different to a Stewards Inquiry. Had an Objection been raised by the 2nd to the 1st, the Stewards would have looked at It differently but no Objection was lodged meaning the jockey of On His Own was happy with the result. There Is always natural hampering and colliding In any race but Stewards will only overturn placings If It's deemed the jockey deliberately hampered the 2nd and there was no evidence of that and no Objection lodged. That's why It stood... lack of Intent.
Natural veering happens a lot especially at Cheltenham where horses are used to swinging right handed on tracks that are right handed such as Kempton Park and then suddenly, they are on a left handed track like Chelters. Happens a lot. This one just happened to occur nearer the line.
It's forgotten also that the horses are doing In excess of 45 mph and anyone who thinks a jockey can correct 18 hands and half a ton of solid muscle at those speeds In an Instance Is quite mad... sorry .

It's forgotten also that the horses are doing In excess of 45 mph and anyone who thinks a jockey can correct 18 hands and half a ton of solid muscle at those speeds In an Instance Is quite mad... sorry .

Thank you, Oscar, for the explanation. Makes things clearer and less confusing.

Sorry If I came across patronising. Not my Intent but many people don't understand what goes on behind the scenes.
Where you will see placings over-turned and even disqualifications Is In lower grade races with less experienced jockeys. It's how they learn the hard way.
It's extremely rare to see a placing over-turned In a Grade 1 race because of the experience of jockeys who can sense by experience when they feel a horse may start to veer and then they have time to correct him. But In this case, the veering happened on the run In and I believe LW's jockey would have used his whip quota by that stage leaving him unable to whip the horse to correct him. If he had, he's have been In breach of whip regs. The Stewards take all that Into consideration.
If the jockey of On His Own believed he'd been deliberately hampered he could have raised the Objection. Even The 3rd horse The Giant Bolster could have raised an Objection from the 3rd to the 1st. The fact they took It graciously shows their understanding of how difficult It was for all of them.
