This morning, on my way to work, I passed a number of NHS "Fair Pay" Protestors near the local Ambulance Station. The weather was foul, yet they were still out there with their placards. As I passed them I gave them the thumbs up, which seemed to give a big boost to their moral, as it was met with a massive cheer & a vigorous waving of their placards in appreciation.
I call it a protest, rather than a strike, seeing as it was only for 4 hours, and even then it was made sure that life threatening emergencies would not be affected.
The Government promised a 1% pay increase (less than the rate of inflation), and then blatantly reneged on it.
Even for them to have been forced into the position of having to make a 4 hour protest has to be a demonstration of how things have already gone way too far - and yet the cuts continue.

I have a direct debit to our local air ambulance.
This came about with the closure of the air ambulance at nearby Frenchay hospital that has served many a victim of serious Injury In the past and being switched to further away Southmead hospital. One big snag... It was only after they made the switch that the powers that be found Southmead didn't actually have a landing pad for the helicopters... You couldn't make It up !!! Now, the public, such as me, Is being called upon to fund It.
Protests on such matters are the norm here.

True but If you are airlifted Into Bristol right now with serious head or spinal Injuries, you'll be circumnavigating the skies for days while the pilot seeks out a landing pad. You would think the powers that be would have thought of this before closing Frenchay... apparently not.
