Wishing people would engage brains before sharing posts.

Post by Betty Boop »

I'm quite aghast at the propaganda facebook is littered with at the moment. One group I have had to block to avoid seeing friends share their appalling posts is Britain First!

But it would seem that lots are innocently clicking on 'share' without realising who they are sharing.

Britain First's social media posts mix far-right politics, populist nationalism and, more bizarrely, pictures of Gandhi, Princess Diana, and even animal rights messages.

The group has millions of people sharing, liking and commenting on its posts every week, a level never reached by the EDL. Many do not realise they are interacting with the extreme right.

Britain First: inside the extremist group targeting mosques - Channel 4 News

What I did find interesting is Britain First posting up a piece about Theresa May and her 'extremist crackdown', Theresa May and her "extremist crackdown" can't say I wholly agree with all she is proposing but I think it would be far better if the public in general would just open their eyes and double check the origins of posts they choose to share!

Bit pushed for time right now, but just to say, I don't believe anyone ' Innocently clicks on share'. Most people on Facebook know their way around the site.

Britain First... hmmmm You won't hear me say anything to support them given they are Far Right. However, we do so love their Facebook updates... just to sneer In a haughty disdain.

I could give the history of the founders Paul Golding and Jim Dowsen If you wish, but I'm pushed for time.

eta... Other Far Right Orgs and Parties use Facebook but at least they use groups only. That way unless someone has actively seeked out the group, the whole world doesn't get their updates on their newsfeed. It also protects people from the world and his wife knowing they are associated with the Far Right... Britain First just don't give a shyte about that.

I disagree with the fact you think people 'know' what they are sharing. Friends have shared it unwittingly and I have messaged them to point out what they are sharing, they've either been horrified or decided it doesn't really matter it's just a post.:-3

I agree. It's very easily done. Sometimes when you visit a website it has the FaceBook logo on it, which you click on, intending to see what their FaceBook is all about, only to find that the link itself is a fake, and has automatically got you to share it.

It's like so many of the 'Freeware' applications that you can download (I'm sure we've all come across them), which all too often trick you into installing loads & loads of bloatware, screwing up your system with 'Toolbars' & 'Money Saving Coupons' etc. that can be such a pig to get rid of because they're self replicating. Nobody (or hardly anybody) ever conciously wants to install all this crap. It's just a click of a button (or omitting to check/uncheck a box) that can be so easily concealed. Furthermore, so many of these sites are very good clones of reliable, official sites, so that you think the source is reliable.

BB, that is one of the many reasons I will not go on Facebook. I really don't trust the site, I don't trust that what a person posts on that site is private when they organise it to be private. I have been informed that Facebook security is not all that it is cracked up to be. Also there seems to be groups of people causing strife, and individuals "grooming" young children, both boys as well as girls, for that individual's sexual perversions. No, I'm glad that I do not have any relatives who patronise Facebook - they use Skype.

I am aware that many people use Facebook to keep in touch with family and other relatives and friends, and I'm glad for them. I am also very sad that such a wonderful amenity like Facebook is damaged by misuse - reminds me of Citizens' Band Radio in the early 80's. Wonderful for people who were housebound for one reason or another, and they could chat with others and form lovely friendships that would not normally have been possible. Then along came the spoilers. They drove these people off CB radio, with their nastiness. People sold their equipment and said goodbye to a brilliant amenity, and a lot of them also said goodbye to a dimension of their lives that will probably never come again.

To me that is what Facebook has become - a facility for some people (if you can call them that) to sickeningly get their 'thrills' with their evil activities. They spoil it for the nice people of the world, who just want to keep in touch with families and friends, and to even trace long lost relatives and friends. But the bastards of the world just want to cause fear, sadness and even use Facebook to commit crimes. No not for me, I have enough in real life without masochistically introducing more problems and worry.
I'm a Saga-lout, growing old disgracefully
